With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Jean Marie O’Neill Robertson,
89, of Sebastian, Florida. She died peacefully on September 16 at home, surrounded by her
family.
Born August 24, 1936, to Genevieve Louis and Robert James O’Neill, Jean Marie grew up in
Jersey City, New Jersey. She graduated from The Academy of St. Aloysius in 1953 and from
St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing (Paterson, N.J.) in 1956.
Jean Marie worked as a registered nurse and was a devoted mother, spouse and sister. She
lived in Jersey City and Bridgewater, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, Texas, and West Virginia. She
retired to Sebastian, Florida in 1997. Jean Marie loved Shakespeare, opera and visual arts. A
voracious reader and perpetual student, Jean Marie was on a lifelong quest for knowledge and
enlightenment. She lived in many places, but her home was always where her family and
friends were.
Jean Marie was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert Stewart Robertson
(2020), and her brother Kevin. Jean Marie is survived by her sisters Peggy, Eleanor, Mary Beth,
Pat, and her brother Bob; children Mary Ann (Captain Dave Santos), Peter (Jennifer Tabakin),
Janet (Rose Smith), William (Debra Delaney), and Catherine (Donald Goodkin); grandchildren
Louis, Kevin, and Rebecca; and many nieces, nephews and granddogs whom she adored.
The Robertson family is especially grateful to the VNA Hospice staff Frances and Frank, as well as
special thanks to Vilma for her care and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to
the VNA Hospice (https://vnatc.org/donate) or Project El Salvador/The Center for Arts for Peace
(http://www.projectsalvador.org/centerforartsforpeace.html). Please mention The Center for Arts for
Peace in your donation.
A celebration of Jean Marie’s life will be scheduled at a future date.
And whether we shall meet again I know not.
Therefore our everlasting farewell take:
For ever, and for ever, farewell, [trustees]!
If we do meet again, why, we shall smile;
If not, why then, this parting was well made.
