Lois, “Loie” Elchyshen Alsaker

Lois, “Loie” Elchyshen Alsaker, 84, of Palm Bay Florida passed away on Nov 1, 2025 at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay Florida.

Lois was born in Monticello, NY on April 1, 1941, to Mary Novogrodsky Elchyshen and John Elchyshen of Woodridge NY. Although a lifetime resident of So. Fallsburg NY, Loie spent the last 13 years of her life enjoying the sunshine in Palm Bay Florida. She was a graduate of South Fallsburg High School and attended Orange County Community College in Middletown, NY.

Lois began a career at Sullivan ARC in Monticello NY where she proudly worked for 31 years until her retirement. Her commitment and dedication to helping others led to her role as the Assistant Director of Human Resources. She was a lifelong member of the LUNA Organization, an avid mystery novel reader, and a keen word puzzle solver as well. Lois loved traveling, flowers and nature, and cheering on her favorite NY sports teams with her ever-present competitive spirit. She dearly loved celebrating her Ukrainian heritage, cooking and enjoying traditional foods, and holidays with big family gatherings. Lois also loved her many pets throughout the years, treating each as a special companion. Above all else, however, her life was defined by her love and devotion to her family. As a daughter, she selflessly cared for both of her parents offering unconditional support and love throughout their lives, until their passing. She was briefly married to Thorvald Alsaker of Middletown, NY and together they had two daughters. A single mom for most of her life, she excelled at providing the best for her daughters. As a mother, grandmother, and friend, she gave of herself freely and endlessly, approaching every situation with an open heart and an unwavering generosity. Words cannot express the sadness that is felt by her passing, Lois will be deeply missed by all.

Lois is survived by daughters Terri (William) Harris of Cochecton NY; Maurene (Norris) Gilmore of Palm Bay FL; Grandchildren Ashley (James) Baker of Glen Spey NY; Jenna (Zachariah) Nackley of Liberty NY; Nickolas DeFrank of Palm Bay FL; Alexis (Eduardo) Leon, of Liberty NY, and Lily Gilmore of Palm Bay FL. Twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Lois was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Mary Elchyshen of Woodridge NY, sister Marlene (Michael) Alterman of Fort Lee NJ, and her lifelong love, partner, and stepfather to her daughters, Clinton Crawford of So. Fallsburg NY along with their pup Bandit.

A private family memorial will be held in the future. Arrangements under the direction of Millenium Cremation Services. Memorial donations may be made to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Inc PO Box 414238, Boston MA 02241-4238, or the charity of one’s choice.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
