Nancy Mears Helander

March 19, 1954 ~ January 16, 2026

Nancy Mears Helander, 71, passed away at her home in Vero Beach, FL, on January 16, 2026.  Born on March 19, 1954, Nancy grew up in Delray Beach, FL and attended Delray Beach Elementary, Delray Junior High and Seacrest High School.  She went on to build a successful career as an insurance agent before retiring.

Nancy was a devoted mother who loved her sons fiercely and adored them deeply. She is survived by her sons, Sean Parsons (and his wife, Jodi Comfort), Ryan Helander and Kyle Helander, and by her grandchildren, Kylie Helander, Layla Helander, and Noah Lawler. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Carol Mears Logan, Roy Mears, Diane Mears Pappa, Betty Mears Rhoads, Dolores Mears Ahokas and Tim Mears. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur W. and Rita J. Mears and her brothers Tony Mears and Larry Mears.

Nancy was known for her vibrant personality and the outfits that matched it. She possessed incredible wit and a wonderful sense of humor – her own “sense of hue-mar” as she liked to say. Her very generous spirit and deep love for animals were constants throughout her life; she never hesitated to rescue or care for any creature in need.

Some of Nancy’s happiest moments were spent Latin dancing with her sisters late into the night or taking her kids to Dubois Park FL to fish & swim. She treasured family gatherings, brunches and the simple joy of watching her dogs play.  Her warmth and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone she met; she had a remarkable ability to brighten people’s day with just the sound of her voice and her quick wit.

Nancy was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and found strength in her faith throughout her life. Even when she could no longer attend meetings in person or serve in the ways she wished, she continued supporting her congregation by stuffing envelopes and attending meetings online.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Nancy’s memory.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Humane Society or the Animal Rescue of your choice.

May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
