Randall Theodore (Randy) Stevens

Randall Theodore (Randy) Stevens, 68, Ft. Pierce, FL/Alexandria Bay, NY passed away Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida, after a brief illness. His final resting place will be Sunnyside Cemetery in Great Bend.
Born October 17, 1957, in Gouverneur, NY, he was the son of Marion (Bush) Ashlaw and Denver Stevens. He grew up in Great Bend and graduated from Carthage HS in 1975. Randy began his career path with Anchor Motor Freight before working at the Champion Paper Mill. His final career change was to the NYS Department of Corrections, from which he retired in 2020 after 20 years from Gouverneur Correctional Facility.
Randy and Shelley (Stiles) married in 2005. They have been snowbirds sharing time between their residence in Ft Pierce, FL, and in their RV at Swan Bay Resort, Alexandria Bay, NY, since 2021. He previously resided in Great Bend, NY. Marriages to Faye Miller and April Camidge ended in divorce.
 Randy was a volunteer fire fighter for the Great Bend Fire Department for 40 years and served as Fire Chief for 17 years. During his time with the fire department, he participated in the Firemen’s Drill Team Races both on the West Carthage Hornets and the Great Bend Cobras. He continued to travel and support the Cobras once he no longer raced. Randy enjoyed a special relationship with his nephew Corey Paul (Hannah) Stevens, Douglas MA, who spent many hours watching the races and who became a professional firefighter. Randy enjoyed his Harley motorcycles over the years and belonged to several riding clubs. He was also a member at Cedars Golf Course where he golfed in the Tuesday morning senior league and the Thursday afternoon league. He enjoyed cheering on the Buffalo Bills, watching the Yankees and traveling with Shelley to Cancun, Mexico and other tropical resorts each winter. He enjoyed a cold beer or two at the American Legion, Bassett Baxter Post 789, where he was a member of the sons of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Carthage Elks and VFW. In 2021, he joined Moose Lodge 248 in Lakewood Park, Fl.
 Randy is survived by his wife Shelley, his son Brock (Helena) Stevens, Carthage, NY; daughters Kristy Stevens, Lowville, NY; and Jessica (Erik) Schneider, Rochester NY; stepson Benjamin Decker, Vero Beach FL; brother Roy (Diana) Stevens, San Antonio, TX; sister Lisa (Steven) Hooley, Canton, GA; sister-in-law Kimberly Stiles; and half-brothers Michael (Lynn) Stevens, Hickory, NC, and Lyle Camidge, Carthage, NY. He was “Papa” to 9 grandchildren: Zoey, Madison, Jamey, Patrick, Zeb, Konner, Kellan, Hayden, and Julian; and 2 great grandchildren: Kai and Winston.
 He was predeceased by his father Denver Stevens, mother Marion Ashlaw, stepfather Vaughn Ashlaw, stepmother Doris Stevens and son Jason Stevens.

A memorial service for Randy will be held on May 13th with calling hours from 2:00 to 4:30 with service immediately following at Lundy Funeral Home, 500 State Street, Carthage, New York with the burial immediately following at Sunnyside Cemetery in Great Bend, NY. Please join the family at the Carthage American Legion for a meal and to share memories. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Great Bend Volunteer Fire Department (PO Box 182, Great Bend, NY 13643).
