Donna Adams Larsen passed away in her sleep on April 28, 2026 at an assisted living facility in Sebastian, Florida where she resided for the past 3 years.
Donna was born in Harmony, Maine on July 17, 1933 to parents Alice House Howell and Manville Howell. She graduated from Harmony High School and then from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing (CMMC) in 1954, an achievement of which she was most proud. Following her nursing graduation, Donna crossed the country and worked for a year in California with several of her classmates. She returned to Maine and married the love of her life, James H Adams, Jr in 1957. They enjoyed over 25 wonderful years together, raising 3 children in Skowhegan, ME, spending summers at camp on Sibley Pond, and vacationing in Florida, Hawaii, and other warm locations. They relocated to Hermon, ME in 1981, living there together until James passed away unexpectedly in 1985.
Donna married Robert Larsen in 1990 and they enjoyed many wonderful adventures camping in Florida in winters starting in 1996 and summering in Hermon and at Bob’s camp in Deer Isle, where Donna loved the sunsets. After 33 years together, Bob passed away in 2023.
Donna excelled in her nursing career at Redington Fairview General Hospital from 1957 to 1981, where she was a very well- respected ICU nurse. After a brief stint at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Donna found her final home in nursing at St Joseph Hospital in Bangor, ME in 1983 until she retired in 1995.
Donna was the matriarch of our family. She was a selfless person, giving of herself to each of her family members according to their needs. She showed her love for her family in everything she did. She was a talented cook, homemaker, and seamstress. Among her many attributes, her family adored her fun loving and spunky personality, adventurous spirit, twinkle in her big blue eyes, cute chuckle, and her wonderfully cooked family dinners complete with yeast rolls, whoopie pies, and pies. She was an incredibly strong-willed individual who overcame obstacles, illnesses, and injuries over the years. The motto by which she lived was, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
Donna was predeceased by her parents, husbands, siblings (Russell, Gig, Dellie, and Jackie), best friend Iva Watson, and extended family and friends.
She is survived by those who loved and cherished her: her children, Timothy Adams and wife Jena, Cheryl Adams Bourgoin and husband Terry Bourgoin, and Robert Adams and wife Betty; her sister-in-law Guida Libby and husband Don and her brother-in-law Steve Adams and wife Delores; her step- daughter Sharon Weeks and husband Rob; her grandchildren and their significant others, Soomie Carpenter, Lindsay Stillman, Lona Boudreau, James Moreside, and Robbie J Adams; her cherished nieces and nephews and 9 great grandchildren; a special friend, Joyce White; and extended family and friends.
Her gentle, sweet soul will be honored in a celebration of life service to be held in Maine this summer, TBD.
