Edward Gilbert Murphy Jr.

In Loving Memory of Edward Gilbert Murphy Jr.

Edward Gilbert Murphy Jr., lovingly known as Ed, passed peacefully at his home in Barefoot Bay, Florida on June 21, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in Boston on December 7, 1945, and raised in Somerville, Massachusetts, Ed was the firstborn child of Edward and Ruth Murphy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne Murphy, with whom he shared a warm and faith-filled life in Florida. Ed is also survived by his cherished daughter, Kim Cutting, and her husband Mark, along with his treasured grandchildren, Mia and Matthew Cutting. Kim and her family make their home in Young Harris, Georgia.

Ed is reunited in heaven with his first wife, Judi (Baker) Murphy, and their son, Edward “Scott” Murphy. Together, Ed and Judi raised their children in the South Shore area of Massachusetts, building a home filled with love, faith, and family connection.

He leaves behind his siblings: Larry Murphy, Steven Murphy, and June Higgins.

A proud veteran, Ed served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1967 aboard the USS Mullinex during the Vietnam War, where he was honored with the Bronze Star for his courage and dedication. His sense of duty, integrity, and honor remained an enduring part of his character throughout his life.

Following his service, Ed worked as a photographer alongside his father before dedicating many years to managing senior housing in Massachusetts. In every role, he treated people with dignity, patience, and compassion.

Ed was a devoted Christian whose faith guided him daily. He embraced his calling to mentor, lead Bible studies, and support his church community with quiet sincerity. He often spent peaceful mornings at Dunkin’ Donuts with his Bible open, welcoming anyone who wished to talk—offering conversation, comfort, or a listening ear to all who crossed his path.

In the rhythms of everyday life, Ed found simple joys that reflected his gentle nature. He was an avid and talented gardener, nurturing beauty from the earth with patience and care. He found comfort in routine—faithfully enjoying the same breakfast each day and treating himself to his beloved orange popsicles. These small rituals spoke to the steadiness of his spirit and the peaceful way he moved through the world.

Ed lived simply, loved deeply, and shared his faith not only through his words, but through the quiet example of his life.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church in Sebastian, Florida on July 11, 2026, at 2 p.m. All who were touched by his life, friendship, or faith are warmly invited.

May his memory be a blessing, and may his spirit continue to shine through the lives of all who loved him.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
