Dr. David E. Sullivan, Ed.D., of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on June 28, 2026, at the age of 71. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his daughters Rachel, Sarah (Michael Goldberg), and Emily; his mother, Beatrice Sullivan; his sister, Eileen Watkins; and his grandsons, Gauge and Garrix Goldberg.
Originally from Long Island, NY, David first moved to Florida in 1972 to attend the University of Miami on a music scholarship.
David served as a Professor at Indian River State College for 13 years, then as Provost of the Mueller Campus from 1996 to 2014, dedicating over three decades to higher education and to the students, faculty, and community he served.
In addition to his work at the college, David served on the boards of the United Way and the Chamber of Commerce, and he was an original board member at Indian River Charter High School. He was also a founder of the Gifford Youth Achievement Center. When not working or serving the community, David loved fishing, cooking, and spending time with his grandsons.
David leaves behind a legacy of leadership, education, and public service that will be remembered throughout the Indian River County community, a place he was proud to call home.
In accordance with David’s wishes, services will be private.

My heart breaks for his family and pray for them all. I had such a pleasant experience meeting with David as he personally accommodated my daughter’s career demands and was such a delight. My condolences to his loved ones.
