Our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Ann Everson Giles, passed away on July 25, 2026 in Port St. Lucie, Florida at the age of 86. Mary found eternal peace alongside Bill, her husband of 63 years, and her daughter, Elizabeth. She is survived by her daughter Susan (& Kevin) Postal and her grandchildren: Julia and Maria Ziaja and Timothy and Keri Postal. Mary was the heart of our family and is known for her generous spirit and unwavering kindness. Mary loved to cook and entertain and hosted many joyful gatherings of family and friends.
Mary was born and raised in Amsterdam, New York. She attended S.U.N.Y. Alfred Technical Institute and graduated with her A.A.S. degree in 1960. She moved to Buffalo to attend The University of Buffalo where she earned her B.S degree in Medical Technology. While in Buffalo, she met the love of her life, Bill, and they married in 1962. Mary worked at Buffalo General Hospital for a number of years, and later pursued a successful career in real estate with Century 21 and MJ Peterson.
Mary loved to travel. Some of her favorite memories are a yearlong college study abroad in Hawaii, traveling with Bill to Australia for a year in 1963, and many trips with her husband, children and grandchildren. Upon retirement, Mary and Bill began spending winters in Florida and summers in Buffalo. This allowed them to spend time with lots of family and friends. Mary’s favorite hobby was bird watching and she traveled to many parts of the US and around the world taking birding trips with her friends. She passed on her love for nature and adventure onto her children and grandchildren.
Mary brought joy and support to others. Her love and kindness will be greatly missed by her family and friends who adored her. A celebration of life will be held in New York at a later date.
