Lillian Francis (Swindell) Martin, age 93, of Sebastian, Florida, and a lifelong resident of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

She was the beloved wife of Walter Martin, with whom she shared a beautiful life and celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Born on June 22, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts, Lillian was the daughter of the late Emery and Marjorie Swindell. She attended Somerville High School, where she met Walter, and the two became high school sweethearts. In 1958, they made their home in Chelmsford, where they lovingly raised their four children: Cynthia (William) Hubbard, James Martin, Susan (Mark) Spencer, and Jane (Dan) Joy. As well as Kenneth (Marie) Dias who became like a son to Lillian and Walter.

Lillian was the proud grandmother of Jennifer (Clifford) Gerich, Jessica (Brian) Taylor, Joshua (Jessica) Hubbard, Jared (Marysa) Hubbard, and Nicholas Martin. She was also blessed with ten cherished great-grandchildren: Hailey, Logan, Natalie, Kelsey, Piper, Avery, Paisley, Noah, Scarlett, and Masen.

Lillian was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Casey, and her brothers, Norman and Emery “Buddy” Swindell. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Costa.

Lillian lived her life with a beautiful spirit and an unwavering love for her family. She was devoted to those she loved, always making sure everyone was cared for and bringing joy wherever she went. She was an active member of All Saints Church in Chelmsford, where she participated in the quilting group and volunteered at the church thrift shop. She was also involved with the Brownies and Girl Scouts, touching the lives of many young people through her kindness and dedication. Together, Lillian and Walter spent more than 20 years enjoying friendships and dancing with the Alpine Square Dancers.

Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who always put her family first. She was a loyal friend to many and a wonderful neighbor. She will be remembered for her caring heart, quick wit, gentle kindness, warm smile, and her undeniable love of anything sweet.

Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family. Whether hosting gatherings, sharing stories around the table, sewing and quilting with those she loved, or simply enjoying a cup of tea and a homemade treat, Lillian made everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love—a place her family will forever carry in their hearts.

Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave, the traditions she created, and the countless memories she leaves behind will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
