Joeseph (Joe) Rhodes, 79, of Vero Beach, went home to be with the Lord, August 24, 2026, with his family by his side.
He was born February 17,1947, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of the late Oscar and Helen (Gerth) Rhodes.
Joe spent most of his life in Muscatine, he worked for many years as an overhead crane operator for North Star Steel in Wilton, Iowa. After retirement, his longtime dream was to retire in Florida. He spent the last two years doing exactly that, happily living his best life in the sunshine. He found a deep born again faith later in life, and was proudly baptized on June 9 ,2024. Joe loved the lord deeply and his faith guided the way he cared for those around him. He found his church family at Central assembly of God, where he easily formed, cherished friendships. He especially loved his Monday night men’s group.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye’s, Chicago Cubs and NASCAR fan. His all-time favorite driver was the late Dale Earnhardt. To this day, every car Joe owned had a number #3 Intimidator decal proudly displayed on the back window. But above all, sports and hobbies, Joe was the absolute biggest fan of his grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to support and celebrate whatever they were doing.
Joe was known for being laid back, funny, goofy, and always “fickle farting” around with projects. He brought endless laughter to those around him. Joe had a giant heart, a servant’s spirit and was always completely willing to give anyone a hand. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
Joe is survived by his children, Destany (Robert) Schaapveld, Joseph Rhodes ll. His cherished grandchildren, Draydon Rhodes, Stella Bender and Bristol Rhodes. And dear friend, Fontelle Rhodes.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Rhodes and Roger Rhodes.
Until we meet again, Rock on, Poppy!
