Todd Johann Friedrick Schaumloffel, 77, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026.
Todd was born on September 16, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Carl and Janet Schaumloffel. He attended Western Hills High School in Cincinnati before continuing his education at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he earned a degree in architecture. He began his architectural career in Atlanta and San Francisco before returning to Cincinnati to join his brother in the family business. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy Liggett Zaferes, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years of marriage.
Todd lived a full and storied life, enriched by a love of travel, a passion for the sea, and a deep appreciation for the places and people who made life special. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending winters in Fort Lauderdale and treasured his summers at South Twin Lake in Phelps, Wisconsin, where he made lasting memories. In his later years, he found a wonderful sense of community among his neighbors in Vero Beach. Always willing to contribute his time and talents, Todd served on the community’s board of directors, making meaningful contributions to the neighborhood he was proud to call home.
Though architecture was his profession, Todd’s creativity extended well beyond his career. He was a gifted and devoted hobbyist who lovingly created an extraordinary collection of miniature passenger ships, reflecting his fascination with ships and the world of maritime travel. His love of the sea took him on many memorable journeys, including luxury cruises aboard Regent Seven Seas, Silversea, and the extraordinary QE2. He also cherished his adventures aboard his own 40-foot trawler, Kingfisher, where he could experience the beauty and tranquility of life on the water.
Todd will be remembered for the life he built, the places he explored, the interests he pursued with such enthusiasm, and the lasting memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. Todd’s quick wit ensured that no gathering was ever dull and no story was poorly told. His life was one of adventure, creativity, and meaningful connections, and his presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of sharing in his journey.
Todd is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Nancy Schaumloffel; his brother, Eric K. M. Schaumloffel (Mary Dean); his nephews, Eric K. M. Schaumloffel II (Rebecca); and Konrad P. Schaumloffel; and his stepson, Charles A. Jennice (Michelle); his nephew, Dean Liggett (Brenda); his niece, Beth Wilson (Dave).
Details regarding Todd’s memorial service will be shared at a later date.

To Nancy & all the family & friends who shared in Todd’s adventurous life ~
We are sad yu’ve had to say a final goodbye to Todd, but his passing away last wk was more the closure of the final chapter of his time on this earth. With his illness starting a number of yrs ago, yu’ve all said yur goodbyes to the Todd you knew a fair amt of time ago…It’s time to have a celebration of his life that was & to allow all of you to have the closure you deserve…& that’s especially true for you Nancy. No one could’ve been more dedicated nor cared for Todd more gently than you. You made sure that the love of your life had “fair winds & following seas” as he left this world…You deserve rest & recovery before you contemplate the next chapter of your life…
