Beverly Ostler passed away on her 95th birthday on Tuesday, November 3rd in Vero Beach, Florida.
Born Beverly Ann Kraft in Englewood, New Jersey to Lou and Anne Kraft, Beverly married her high school sweetheart, George Ostler in 1950. They raised three sons in New Jersey, where Beverly was a model and an instructor at the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School. She and George performed in Little Theater, where Beverly directed several of the plays, such as Bus Stop, Janus, and Come Blow Your Horn. Beverly was very active in their hometown of Haworth, New Jersey, where she loved to play tennis. The couple was known for fun and creative house parties where guests were too busy playing games to drink.
In 1974, Bev and George did what so many people in New York and New Jersey claim they are going to do: moved to Vermont and opened a ski lodge. While working for two years in hospitality jobs to gain experience, they bought and refurbished an old farmhouse, opening the Acorn Lodge in Waterbury Center in 1976, which they ran for almost ten years. During that time, Bev also conceived of and ran the Inn School of Cooking, where she hired local restaurant chefs to teach cooking classes to lodge guests for a week. After selling the lodge and moving to Stowe, Vermont in 1986, Beverly began The Classic Age in Burlington, Vermont, a modeling agency for mature models.
After 37 years of a loving marriage, George passed away in 1987. Beverly never remarried, remaining in Stowe for another 25 years, splitting time between Stowe and various cities on the Atlantic coast in Florida, before moving to Florida full time (she never liked to be cold). At one point, Beverly owned and lived on a houseboat in the Florida Keys. In 2015, Beverly wrote a memoir entitled Act II: The Unpredictable Adventures of a Young Widow. She ultimately settled in Vero Beach, Florida in 2018 and lived there until her passing.
With a very open, friendly, and gregarious nature, Beverly made many lifelong friends in New Jersey, Vermont, and Florida. She was loved by many.
Predeceased by her husband, George, and her brother, Ross Kraft, Beverly is survived by her sister, Louanne Smith of Port Charlotte, Florida, as well as three sons, Don, Gary, and Curtis, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
