In Loving Memory of Francis Michael “Rusty” Duffy April 6, 1941 – November 10, 2025
Francis Michael Duffy, affectionately known as “Rusty,” passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025. Born in Manhattan on April 6, 1941, Rusty lived a life marked by courage, devotion, and quiet strength.
A proud member of the FDNY, Rusty served his city with distinction through assignments at Ladder 17 and Rescue 3 during an unprecedented time in The Bronx, ultimately retiring as a New York City Fire Marshal. His unwavering commitment to protecting others left a lasting legacy and earned the respect of his fellow firefighters and community.
Rusty is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine Duffy, and their children: Patricia Drum (married to Donald), Maureen Michielini, and Michael Duffy (married to Paula). Rusty was a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren, with whom he built countless cherished memories.
He raised his family in Pearl River, New York, where they lived for over 30 years. During that time, Rusty was active in his community, coaching baseball, soccer, and softball for local youth leagues and the high school. His dedication to mentoring young athletes reflected his generous spirit and love for the game. After retiring, he and Gerry became snowbirds, spending the Summer months with family at the Jersey Shore and Winters with great new friends in Barefoot Bay Florida. He continued his softball career with the Barefoot Bay softball league, bringing much-needed lefty power to the lineup.
Rusty was truly loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was the life of the party, funny, laid-back, and endlessly lovable.
His life was rich in love, laughter, and legacy. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

My husband and I met Gerry & Rusty on our honeymoon in the Poconos on September 30,1962 and we’ve been friends to this day. They were married one day after us. Through the years we shared many of life’s moments including celebrating our anniversaries with a weekend in Atlantic City, one time at a fancy restaurant in Manhattan and another time my husband and I flew down to Florida to see them in their Florida home. Rusty was wonderful and caring and he will be missed. My heart breaks for Gerry and their children and grandchildren. I am unable to travel, but I will be live-streaming the Funeral Mass.

We shared many enjoyable fun times together: sitting at our pool, the “softball games”, at each other’s homes, and various clubs at Barefoot Bay.
