In Loving Memory of Gary William Shea
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Gary entered the world as the cherished son of William J. Shea and Mildred A. Shea. He passed away at the age of 67, on July 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and devotion. A proud resident of Sebastian, Florida since 2005, Gary found peace and comfort in the community he called home.
Gary will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 42 years, Maryanne, whose unwavering love and partnership were the foundation of his life. He also leaves behind his loving sons, Matthew and James, who carry forward the strength, compassion, and values he instilled in them.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Hammock of Boston, Massachusetts; his nephews, Craig and Eric Hammock, his sister-in-law, Rosemary Newton, and his cherished grandnieces, Carlie and Megan—each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Gary’s friendships spanned decades—testament to the deep bonds he built and nurtured. To know him was to be part of a connection that lasted, shaped by mutual respect, humor, and the kind of loyalty that never wavered.
In his neighborhood, children affectionately called him “Mr. Gary,” a reflection of the approachable, gentle soul who always had time to share a smile, a wave, or a kind word with the youngest members of his community.
Fondly known as “Coach,” Gary was the spirited leader of countless fantasy football and baseball leagues, bringing friends and family together through his love of the game and his gift for building community. His passion and playful competitiveness made every season memorable. Gary’s smile would light up a room, effortlessly lifting hearts and making everyone around him feel at ease and welcome especially during those award ceremonies.
He also held a deep affection for the Christmas holiday, embracing the season with a childlike joy that was contagious. From his “Santa” cap to his holiday music and decorations, Gary’s spirit shone especially bright during this time, filling hearts with warmth and wonder.
Gary had a lifelong love of cars and would talk shop with family and friends.
More than anything, he was known for being there for others—always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, or an encouraging word. His kindness and loyalty left a lasting footprint on all who knew him.
Gary will be remembered at a Celebration of Life in Spring 2026, where loved ones will gather to honor his spirit, share stories, and celebrate the joyful legacy he leaves behind.

I had never had the pleasure of meeting Gary in person. We met over the phone through a mutual friend. I always enjoyed texting Gary.
We had a mutual love of animals. One day I had to put my dog down to to illness. Gary was so thoughtful and kind to send me a sympathy card. Rest in peace Gary.

While I never had the pleasure of meeting him and feeling the warmth of his smile in person, I have felt that same spirit in his son who I have adopted as part of my local family and I’ve felt that warmth still burning bright in his legacy. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Remember to smile often in remembrance and keep that light shining in his absence.
