George Speenburgh, 86, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Born in 1939 in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, George grew up in the community of Hunter, New York. In 1963, he married the love of his life, Barbara Johnson of Tannersville, New York. In November of 1973, George and Barbara relocated to Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Though George and Barbara eventually parted ways, they remained close friends throughout their lives, supporting each other until Barbara’s passing in 2022.
George spent his life working in the construction field and later founded his own construction company.
George had a passion for antique cars, especially the Model T, along with collecting coins and vintage bottles. He loved repairing and collecting slot machines. George traveled to Las Vegas many times, drawn not only by the thrill of the slot machines but also by the city’s dazzling architecture and surrounding natural beauty. Each visit had to include a trip to Hoover Dam, a marvel of engineering that deeply fascinated him.
He is survived by his children, Georgia (Matthew) Guettler, Deborah Mounts, and Kristin (David) Thomas; his brother, Harry Speenburgh; his grandchildren, Travis (Jessica), Bryan, Jaylynne, Marshall, Jeovonni, Avah, Zaire, and Nasir; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Lydia Speenburgh, and his grandson, Brandon Guettler.
George’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
