Jerry Gordon passed away peacefully at home December 27, 2024 at age 93.
Born August 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio he was the only child of Samuel H. and Vera S. Gordon. He moved to Lawrenceburg, Indiana at age 4. He always commented how much he loved his upbringing and wouldn’t have changed any part of it.
In 1937 at age 6, Jerry never forgot the flood that wiped out the entire town of Lawrenceburg. Many families lost their homes. His parents opened their home to many who were homeless and they would sleep in sleeping bags on the floor, instilling in him an example of compassion and involvement.
Jerry loved sports; he was the starting quarterback in his Junior and Senior years at Lawrenceburg High School as well as playing basketball all four years. He graduated in 1949 and 20 years later was honored as an All State player.
Following high school Jerry attended Horrace Mann School in Riverdale, NY. He made the All City Basketball and played in the preliminary game to the College All-Stars in the original Madison Square Gardens that year.
Jerry attended Columbia University NYC from 1950 – 1954 graduating with a BA in Business. While at Columbia he joined the NROTC Midshipman’s Association, played Varsity basketball, band and intramural sports.
He was commissioned an officer upon graduation. Jerry, a proud patriot, served 2 years in the Amphibious Corps, USN. He trained in Coronado, CA stationed in Long Beach. Most of his naval service was in the Pacific and Japan.
In 1956 Jerry returned to Cincinnati and began his business career. He met and married Lynne Meyers Gordon and they had two sons, Jerome A. Jr and David P.
Jerry was active in the business community of Retail, Banking, Wholesale Jewelry and Sporting Goods throughout the years.
He was a member and served as Trustee for Plum Street Temple during the 1970’s.
After retirement in 2000, Jerry moved to South Florida with his wife, Pat. He enjoyed boating, playing tennis, long walks, weekend Vespa rides and drinking wine on the beach. He also enjoyed traveling, especially spending time at his cabin in North Carolina.
Jerry was a great Dad to his furry four legged dogs: Lexi, Taco, Rikki and Rudi.
Mostly he loved and adored his family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia T; son, Jerome A. Jr. (Miriam); three grandchildren, Jerome A. III (Jennifer), Jason A. (Lauren), Tiffany T.; and Great grandchildren, Adeline, Ava, Eliza and Arthur; sister-in-law, Jan Talley; son-in-law Angus MacMillan; nephews and nieces, Rob, Rich, Reene, Jeff, Jennifer, Davy and Kerri.
