It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jon W. Propst, who departed this life peacefully surrounded by his family on July 12, 2025. Born on October 18, 1947, in Gastonia, North Carolina to James and Ollie Propst.
As a Vietnam veteran of the U.S Army, Jon served his country with honor and integrity. After his military service, he became a police officer for Miami Dade County, dedicating 32 years of service. He was the epitome of hard work, dedication and love. His wisdom and unwavering guidance was sought by many and his calm presence was a source of comfort to all who knew him.
Jon was a dedicated husband to Julia, his loving wife of 57 years, and a devoted father to his children Joel, Becky, and Jeffrey, and a proud grandfather to four beloved grandchildren Ethan, Sarah, Rylee, and Kenadee, and a great grandfather to Noah. Dearest Julie, Joel, Becky, Jeffrey, Ethan, Sarah, Rylee, Kenadee, and Noah,
We are heartbroken to learn of Jon’s passing — such a kind soul and wonderful human being.
As our longtime neighbors and friends, Julie, you and Jon hold a special place in our hearts and are forever woven into our lives and memories. From offering kindness and neighborly support to sharing good news; from piano lessons and recitals to fundraisers; from talking politics to teaching Greg about bikes and pipes; from lending a helpful hand to offering that nostalgic good-morning wave, the memories remain in our hearts and minds.
Julie, it has been a privilege to have had you and Jon in our lives.
It is so comforting to know that, during his passing, you all were able to have such meaningful and profound last moments with Jon as he began his journey back home to the Lord — moments that will forever be with you and serve as a reminder that the love of family is the greatest gift of all.
Greg and I have a feeling that Jon is riding with the angels along the golden roads of Heaven on his Hog as he sports his new Angel Wings and is on his way to watch over each of you — his Blessed family.
To that, we say, “Ride on, Jon; Godspeed and God Bless.”
With Our Deepest Sympathies and
All Our Love,
Debbie, Greg, Amanda,
Gregory, and Victoria Nelson

I came to know John through Julie who is our church organist. The few interactions I had with him were through church and in their home. In the obituary I saw mentioned “his calm presence” and that’s what I gleaned from what I came to see in him. As the father of a retired police officer, I guess I picked up on that because my son brought and brings that same type of calmness to the people in his life too.
Rest in the Lord John, and may Gods assuring peace and comfort be with your family as they rest in the memories you have left for them.

I will always remember him pulling into our driveway with his police car, turning on the loudspeaker and holler, “Gertrude! Is the coffee ready?!” Good memories!
I am praying for you to experience the peace that passes all understanding.
