Joseph Michael Lyons, Sr.

December 09, 1947 ~ September 12, 2025

Joseph Michael Lyons Sr, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 12, 2025 in Vero Beach, Florida. Joseph spent the majority of his life in Northern New Jersey before moving to Florida in 1995. Joseph was born in Passaic, NJ on December 9, 1947 to his loving parents, Hilda and John. He was one of nine children born into this loving family.

Joseph spent his life working in the fruit and vegetable business. He owned and operated J&L Produce in Newark, NJ for almost 20 years. He worked alongside his sons showing them the business.

In August 1974, Joseph met the love of his life Monica. From day one Monica was the light of his eye. They married shortly after and built a family filled with love. Together they raised their children, Joseph and wife Daniela of Ringwood NJ, the late Dennis, Joseph and wife Christine of Oakland NJ, Lance and his wife Brenda of Edison, NJ and his only daughter Joelene and husband Michael of Ringwood, NJ. Joseph loved telling everyone about his children and how proud he was of them. He was most proud when he was given the gift of his grandchildren; Amanda, Kayla, Joseph, Gabriella, Nicole, Matthew, Kierstan, Sean, Allison and Lauren. He was often seen around town proudly wearing his beloved grandchildren on his t-shirts and loved when people asked about them.

When Joseph and Monica moved to Florida they missed their family dearly but enjoyed spending their weekends at the beach and eating out. They loved being outside enjoying the sun and meeting new people. Joseph was such a friendly man and met people everywhere he went. He had a special way about him that just made people love him. He was known as the “unofficial mayor” in his neighborhood and everyone would stop to say hello and catch up.

Joseph will be cremated and services will be scheduled in New Jersey.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
