Patricia E. Gates

October 29, 1943 ~ September 07, 2025

Patricia E. Gates—known to her friends and loved ones simply as Pat—passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025. Born on October 29, 1943, in Hardwick, Vermont, Pat is remembered for her extraordinary generosity, sharp intelligence, quick wit, and the deep, unwavering love she showed to everyone in her life.

A proud graduate of Hardwick Academy, Class of 1961, Pat was a gifted athlete. She played a key role on her high school basketball team, helping to lead them to the Vermont State Championships multiple times. She was also a talented bowler and member of the local bowling league.

In 1975, Pat became a co-owner of the Gates Salvage Yard in Hardwick—an opportunity passed down by her parents. She worked as the office manager of the family business alongside her three brothers until moving to Florida in 1988. A passionate traveler, Pat explored much of the United States and spent time living abroad before settling back in Florida in 1992.

There, she continued to raise her two children, earned her college degree, and worked in the Vero Beach area until her retirement. Her unbelievable generosity, intelligence, profound sense of humor and deep rooted love leaves a lasting impression on anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Pat was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Onis Gates; her sisters Sheila, Beverly, and Betty; her brothers Robert and James Gates; a niece, Lisa Fox Gates; and a nephew, Johnathan Gates.

She is survived by her two children, Tori Gates and Andrew Gates (and his wife, Kate); her sister Barbara Keough; her brother Reginald Gates (and his wife, Dorothy); and her longtime friend, partner, and co-parent Virginia Bixler. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives she touched deeply.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
