On May 4, 2025, Sonia R. Torres Rivera, age 87, had a peaceful departure from this life, surrounded by love and family.
Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Sonia was the beloved daughter of Modesto Rivera Cartagena and Paula Berrios Lleras. She was a remarkable example of strength, integrity, and devotion. Her unwavering work ethic and deep sense of responsibility were evident throughout her life, and she approached everything she did with honesty, care, and fierce determination.
Sonia was deeply loyal to those she loved. She found her greatest joy in her loved ones, whom she supported with firmness, steady guidance, and unconditional love. While successful in her business ventures, her favorite titles were Titi Sonia, Abuela, and Mami.
She is survived by her husband of over six decades, Ismet Torres Santos; her children and their spouses; her grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews:
• Leslie González and spouse, the late Miguel Bosch; their daughters, Amanda and Claudia
• Dennis Torres and spouse, Gregory (Greg) Mangum
• Denise Torres and spouse, Gonzalo (Gonza) Barreras; their children, Victoria and Gonzalo (Gonchi)
• Lynette Torres and spouse, Iván Cintrón; their daughters, Paula and Ivanna
Sonia was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved siblings: sisters Zulma Santos and Sylvia Rivera, and brother Modesto Rivera.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service at this time. A memorial gathering will be held later in the summer (details to follow). Her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Caguas, Puerto Rico, among those who preceded her.
She will be deeply missed! Que el Señor la tenga en Su Gloria.
