Willard Lee “Will” DuVal

May 24, 1942 ~ October 19, 2025

Willard Lee DuVal, lovingly known to all as “Will” or “Butch,” passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. True to his nature, Will faced his illness with bravery, grace, and even humor—doing everything the doctors recommended and never losing the light in his spirit.

Will loved people—all people. Young or old, friend or stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them smiling. He had a rare gift for connection, always keeping in touch and making time for those who needed a kind word or helping hand. Staying close to others was his strength, and he carried that gift throughout his life.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 24, 1942, to Genevieve Evelyn and Willard Woodrow DuVal, Will grew up surrounded by family and community. He graduated from Lancaster High School in Kilmarnock, Virginia, class of 1962, and went on to study at Rosendolf Vocational Tech in Baltimore and Hesser College in Manchester, New Hampshire. He also continued to grow his skills through courses with the Associated Builders and Contractors Association, Inc.

Will’s work life was as full and varied as the man himself. A true jack-of-all-trades, he started out as a Waterman in Virginia, later building bulkheads and founding a seafood distribution company serving the Baltimore area. He also worked on the Bay Bridge as part of Local 16, then he went to work for Energy Conservation in New Hampshire. When offered a transfer to Miami, he decided his heart belonged in New Hampshire and joined Wrenn Construction as a Project Manager. Even after retirement, Will wasn’t one to sit still—he started his own business, Will DuVal Construction Services LLC, before eventually settling in Vero Beach, Florida, with his beloved wife.

Will leaves behind his devoted wife of 35 years, Jeanne H. DuVal, of Vero Beach; his sister Evelyn (Greg) McMahon of Colorado; and his brother Peter Barill (Rouyan) of Maryland. He is also lovingly remembered by his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy:

  • Susan Graves (Steve) – Grant (Hannah) Long and Pierson Long
  • Regina Sheftelman (Phillip) – Molly Cormier, Ethan Cormier, Lily Sheftelman, and Max Sheftelman
  • Anthony Jr. Pelchat (Eva) – Nichole Pelchat and Robert Pelchat
  • Will is predeceased by his Mother, Genevieve Evelyn Barill; Father, Willard Woodrow DuVal; Father, Pete Barill; Granddaughter, Emma Wilder Long.

Will was the kind of man who made everyone feel like family. His laughter, warmth, and generosity will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and love in Will’s honor—just the way he would have wanted.  In  lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the VNA Hospice House, 901 37th Street,  Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Will was a great guy who always had a story! We loved listening to him tell about the old days! He always had a smile and was fun to be around. Even though we have lived in Vero for years, he took us to places we never knew existed. He called us “The Flatlanders”
We are so sorry that he had to endure so much pain before he passed. Rest in peace old friend we will miss you and never forget you!

Jeanne,
I am so sorry. I will remember Will’s smile, the twinkle in his eye, and how happy and content he was the last time I saw him on one of his boating adventures in Florida.
Will, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy for your enormous loss. Butch was so very special to me and I will cherish all the special memories that I have. He was the very best at keeping in touch with so many people. Although it’s difficult now to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. Grief changes shape but it never ends. When you love someone like Butch was loved, we carry it with us forever. My heart is with you and I am so thankful that he had you in his life. Jeanne you were the best that ever happened to him. I truly mean that. Love ya, Debbie

Will was a true friend and a great neighbor. He was kind to everyone and always willing to help. He was the first person we met when moving into LWV in Vero Beach. We enjoyed many good times together and we will surely miss him.

Will was not just a ‘drinking buddy’ he was a good and honest friend who are hard to come by these days. Although we were 7 years apart in age we were like brothers, always a good conversation was to be had. When I moved from Vero Beach I knew that I would not meet another soul like him to sit and chat with, we were both from the trades and that was our common bond. I am just glad that I was able to meet up just before he passed. Miss you buddy.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
