On August 4th, 1961, Conrad Richter and Jaquelin Dougherty welcomed their 5th child in Muskegon Michigan. A baby boy Paul Owen Richter. Paul was a very active child and that carried over into his teen years where he was involved in many sports. In High school Paul played Baseball, Basketball, Football, as well as did long jumping and track for Hart and Montague. He set records for both schools and made newspaper headlines all through the late 70’s
In 1995, At a bar in Twin Lake Michigan, after a recreational softball game Paul met a woman named Teresa Brooks and the two fell deeply in love. It wasn’t soon after that the two along with her two very small children were on their way to Florida to start their new lives together. On February 19th, 1997, Paul and Teresa Were Married in Vero Beach Florida and where they then continue to live for several years until they moved to Sebastian. Paul loved being a new dad and never thought of Teresa’s children as his stepchildren. He was attentive and always there for every scraped knee, every school dance, every broken heart no matter what. He was the proudest father anyone could be when he walked his little girl down the aisle in 2015.
Paul was a construction worker by trade and spent most of those years doing roofing, aluminum siding and drywall. He used to say he was a “jack of all trades but a master of none”. Paul was an amazing wood worker and built everything from cutting boards, jewelry boxes, shadow boxes to tables and furniture. He put in exquisite detail and love into every piece of work, and they were guaranteed to last forever. Before he left Michigan, he enjoyed hunting deer with his brother-in-law Tom as that had become a yearly tradition for them.
As Paul got older family became more important to him than anything. When grandchildren started to be born, he was the happiest grandpa you would ever meet. He loved being grandpa to his 4 beautiful grand babies. If could have given them the moon and stars he would of. Cancer could not keep him from Soccer games and school functions. He fought until the very end to be there for the ones he loved.
Paul Passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 14th, 2026, at his home in Micco Florida with his wife Teresa by his side. He succumbed to his battle with cancer after fighter for almost 3 long years.
He is survived by his Wife Teresa Richter, daughters Jessica Smith and Kayleigh Eely and Son Roger Posthumus, his four grandchildren Dakota Smith and Elijah Smith, Brooke and Myles Eely.
He was preceded in death by all of his siblings Wanda, Rodney, Chris and Terri as well as both of his parents.
He will always be remembered for his caring and loving nature. He was the most impatient person you could ever meet but he would be the first person to help if you needed anything.
We love you, Dad!

I met Paul when I dated his brother Chris in1975 later married in Nov of 76. Paul and Chris would wrestle together and make each other say Uncle. I lived there with his parents and the twins Dale, rip and David. Paul’s nephews; one Halloween we took my son and the twins, all under 3 trick or treating, it was raining and cold but Paul’s parents insisted we take them, we stop at a few houses, then I pulled into the store and bought a couple bags of candy for their buckets. We laughed about our little joke for years. Paul always knew how to make someone smile especially with his laugh, he was my little brother even though I hadn’t seen him since he moved, we did talk about 4 year’s ago when he learned he had cancer. My heart breaks for his lovely wife and family. RIP little brother, see you on the other side.
