Ellen Lois Price

August 17, 1939 ~ January 31, 2026

Ellen Lois Price, 86, of Vero Beach, FL, and formerly of DeWitt, NY, and Melbourne, FL, passed away on January 31, 2026. Born on August 17, 1939, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she was the beloved daughter of the late Robert L. Price and Pauline McNamara Price.

She devoted many years to her work in the medical school library at SUNY Upstate Medical University, serving with dedication and care until her retirement in 2002. A firm believer in lifelong learning, she proudly earned her BA degree from SUNY Oswego at the age of 60—an accomplishment that reflected her determination, curiosity, and commitment to personal growth. After settling in Florida, she continued her dedication to education and community service by serving on the board of the library. Her involvement reflected the same quiet professionalism and love of knowledge that defined her career, and she remained deeply engaged in supporting library services.

A proud and lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she dedicated many years to its charitable work, fellowship, and traditions. She valued the bonds formed within the organization and served with steadfast commitment, embodying the fellowship, charity, and sisterly support that define the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was also a long‑time member of the Presbyterian Church, where she found fellowship, spiritual grounding, and friendships that enriched her life.

A genuine passion for sports brought her great joy. She found special delight in watching basketball and tennis and following her favorite players and teams with enthusiasm. Her love of athletics extended beyond being a spectator; she spent many happy years playing both golf and tennis, embracing the camaraderie and energy each sport offered. For many years every July, she proudly volunteered at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island, eagerly anticipating the excitement of the matches and the friendships formed with fellow volunteers. Sports—whether watched, played, or supported—were a meaningful and vibrant part of her life.

She also embraced a lifelong passion for travel, exploring countries around the world and immersing herself in diverse cultures. She cherished the beauty and uniqueness of every place she visited, from far‑off destinations to cities rich in history and tradition. Yet of all her travels, New York City remained her favorite—a place she returned to again and again. She delighted in its energy, its museums, its restaurants, and especially its world‑class theater, where she found inspiration and joy. Her love of exploration reflected a spirit of curiosity and adventure that touched all who knew her.

Her impeccable sense of style was another defining part of her life. She delighted in putting together elegant outfits, always choosing the right colors, accessories, and details to express her vibrant personality. Whether dressing for a special occasion or simply enjoying an afternoon out, she carried herself with a natural flair that friends and family admired. Fashion, for her, was a joyful form of self‑expression and a reflection of the confidence and creativity she brought to every aspect of her life.

She is survived by her son, William Heron, and his wife, Susan, of Vero Beach, Florida, and Marion, Massachusetts, as well as her cherished granddaughter, Abigail Heron, of Medford, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Richard Ducar, and her brother, Orville Price. In her later years, she found daily comfort and quiet happiness in the presence of her beloved cat, Chance, who brought her laughter and unconditional love.

Ellen will be remembered for a life well lived—marked by curiosity, kindness, and grace. She leaves behind treasured memories and the enduring example of a woman who embraced the world with open eyes and an open heart.  May her spirit continue its journey with the same wonder and joy that guided her always.

Ellen’s family offers their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Sonata of Vero Beach for their comfort, kindness, and devoted care, and to the VNA and hospice staff for their compassionate support in her final weeks.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
