Alfred “Donnie” Andell Hamm

March 14, 1947 ~ January 18, 2023

Alfred “Donnie” Andell Hamm, 75, of Fort Pierce, Florida, lost his long-fought battle late in the evening hours of Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Donnie was born in O’Brien, Florida on March 14, 1947 to Alfred and Thelma (Varnes) Hamm.  He made his home in Fort Pierce, where he worked for Dickerson Construction until his retirement.

Besides being dashingly handsome, Donnie had other fine attributes as well.  He was an avid marksman, which he demonstrated for all during his illustrious Navy career.  He was fluent in Spanish, but only to the second verse of Freddy Fender’s 1974 hit “Before the Next Tear Drop Falls.”  He was a boxing coach, only to his daughter when she wanted to bare-knuckle fight the neighbor’s son…barefoot. He Loved his football, and enjoyed coaching Andy, even if the other coaches didn’t appreciate his “dedication” to the game. One thing you never did was interrupt him while watching his football games. He spent many hours teaching Ryan the fine art of fishing, and how to cut line with your teeth. Donnie didn’t have any actual hobbies, except his Grandkids, he didn’t miss ball games, birthday parties, even as his health deteriorated he tried to make all those milestone moments. His love for his family was great and he always worked hard to provide. Lastly, Donnie could not wait to take his leave, mainly so he could have some darn peace and quiet without birds squawking and dogs barking, the same dogs you would catch him feeding snacks to when no one was looking.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mai Britt Hamm; daughter, Dena Anne Hamm (Kevin Hamner); sons, Thor Borssen (Lisa Church) and Ryan James Hamm, Sr; grandchildren, Preston Michael (Dana)DiFrancesco, Jordan Matthew (Kimberly) DiFrancesco, Tyler Quinton Hamm, Wyatt Andell Hamm, Austin Garrett (Jennifer) DiFrancesco, Ashlynn Savannah Hamm, Ryan James Hamm, Jr, Chase Borssen, Jayda Borssen and Kayden Borssen; great-grandchildren, Antonio Clement, Donatella DePompo, Bryce DiFrancesco, Ayla Carner, Bella DePompo, Addison DiFrancesco, Carson DiFrancesco, Presley DiFrancesco and Harrison Hamm; siblings, JoAnne (James) Petty, Ronnie (Frances) Hamm, Carl Barden, Jim Barden and Jane (Craig) Stroh; numerous nieces and nephews.

Donnie is proceeded in death by his infant daughter, Donna Ann Hamm; son, Donald “Andy” Andell Hamm; mother, Thelma Varnes; father, Alfred Hamm; sisters, Betty (Virgil) Griffis, Doris (Bobby) Williams,Margie Frix and Barbara Ann (Ray) Sabet; brothers, James Hamm and Danny Hamm.

The family would like to thank all the family and friends who have helped pray for Donnie both for health and salvation throughout the last 15 years.  They would like to express their upmost gratitude to his dear friends, Teek Montgomery and Rodney Black, that not only visited regularly, but also witnessed to Donnie of Jesus’s Saving Grace so that they know there will be a reunion in Heaven. They will see their Superman again!

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
