Diana Lynn Smith Oeding

April 12, 1952 ~ December 31, 2021

Diana «Di» Lynn Smith Oeding passed away peacefully in her home in Vero Beach on Dec 31st 2021. She was born April 12th 1952 in Stuart, Florida of Justine Rainey and Willliam Smith. She grew up in Stuart with her sisters Linda and Claudia and was also close with her cousins Gary, Mark and Dean.

After graduating from Martin County High School in 1971 and receiving a two year scholarship, she attended Indian River Junior College where she obtained an AA and an AS. She then went on to Florida State University where she got her bachelors degree in Multinational Business Operations in 1974.

She was very dedicated towards her academic achievements and prided herself in having a broad skill set that allowed her to explore many different lines of work such as real estate, teaching, translating and a large emphasis in the Norwegian maritime and offshore industry just to name a few.

After college she got married and later they moved to Norway where she had three children, Erik, Annalise and Petter. She raised her three children in both Norway and Florida. Her children remember her as very generous and caring and she had a passion for animals, music, traveling and ballet. She was able to fulfill her dream of enjoying the idyllic Norwegian summers and in the winter the tropical Florida waters.

“Throw me to the wind and sea” she said.

Diana leaves her memories to be cherished by children Erik Oeding, Annalise Oeding and Petter Oeding, sister Linda Smith and grandchildren Lukas and Alea, and a host of family and friends.

Such a beautifully expressed and heartfelt obituary of Diana — our dear first cousin to Dean, Gary, and Mark (myself). A great loss, cut way too short, with many more years we wished she could have lived. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones through family & friends. It has been said. “The best things in life are the people we love, the places we’ve been, and the memories we’ve made along the way.”
Beyond the sadness and shock of her passing; we have lost a wonderful and loving spirit. Growing up with our cousins — Claudia, Di, and Linda was a real treat and gift to have experienced. Thinking of those many childhood Sundays we all spent together with our families, as well as the times shared later into adulthood. They were the sisters we never had…especially Di and Linda being so close in age. Such great memories.
To a beloved and loving mother of three — Eric, Petter (Andrew), Annalise. and her dear sister, Linda…our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy goes out to her family and friends. From what we don’t see, the journey continues. Rest in peace, Diana.
All our love,
Mark & Sean

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
