Dorothy Jane Hendry

November 09, 1949 ~ June 11, 2022

Dorothy Jane Hendry, 72, of Vero Beach, Florida (formerly of Clinton, Illinois) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 11, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jane was born on November 9, 1949 at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington D.C. to Harold and Voncile “Bunny” Zercher. She graduated from Martin County High School in Stuart, Florida and graduated from Pfeiffer University in North Carolina majoring in Sociology. She began her career working as a social worker in Florida and later Missouri and later as a secretary at Clinton High School. However, her most rewarding job was being a homemaker and mother.

Jane married the love of her life, Harold, on September 14, 1974 and he survives. Also surviving include her daughter, Jennifer (husband Nick) Lareau and her favorite and only granddaughter, Alivia, all of Sterling, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents (Harold and Voncile Zercher of Melbourne, Florida and in-laws (“Dee” and Frances Hendry of West Palm Beach, Florida).
Her greatest joys in life were traveling, shopping and, above all else, spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.

Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida 32960 in memory of Dorothy Jane Hendry.

Prayers for your family. Although I don’t remember you, I know how tragic it is to lose one as loved as you. Dance with the angels.

Jane was a classmate and friend at Pfeiffer. We are celebrating our 50th reunion next weekend and Jane will be remembered at our Alumni meeting and at our Ceremony of Remembrance. We will be placing roses in Gibson Lake on campus in memory of Jane and others we have lost in our class.

Our condolences go out to your family. Jane was such fun when we were at Pfeiffer.

Jane was a good friend at Pfeiffer. We lived in Washington Dorm at the same time. I fondly remember going home with her to Stuart, Florida at Thanksgiving in 1971. We haven’t talked in a long time but I still thought of her. She was a sweet person.
Blessings and peace to her family.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
