Gary Doss

Gary Doss, 84, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on the 18th of February 2026.

He was born in Hammond, IN February 17, 1942 to Aubrey and Pauline Doss. He had been a resident of the City of Vero Beach for 14 years coming from Sullivan, Indiana. He was a graduate of Hammond Tech. He was married to Sandra Rakoczy Doss (July 28th 1962).

He retired from the Hammond Police Department after working for 27 years. Before the police department he worked as a machinist at Union Tank in East Chicago. He also served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a proud veteran. He was a jack of all trades, and he loved working on cars and over the years fixed not only his, but anyone else’s that needed work done. He was an amazing wood working craftsman, and he spent countless hours with his friend Bud Shake building beautiful clocks and furniture. He always had a story to tell to anyone who would listen, or even if you didn’t want to listen. He seemed a little rough on the outside, but had a heart of gold for his family and friends. He has helped several people in his lifetime.

He is survived by spouse Sandra Doss; Daughter Erica Vandergriff (husband Nicholas) Son Darrin Doss; Grandchildren Kennedee Lamb, Dossan Lamb, Genevieve Vandergriff, Garet Doss; sibling Steven Doss; Sister-in-law Carolyn Doss and Marge Rakoczy. Gary is also survived by nieces and nephews and countless friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Aubrey and Pauline Doss; his brother Ronald Doss and brother-in-law Thomas Rakoczy.

There will be no services at Gary’s request.

I’m so sorry Erica your dad was a wonderful man. I sold your mom and dad a house in New Lebanon and I just truly enjoyed them. They were such a joy he had full stories and I remember them well they were great people again I’m sorry and I pray that God will be with you and take care of you and your mom.
