George Peter DiBenedetto

August 06, 1948 ~ July 07, 2021

On July 7, 2021 George Peter DiBenedetto entered the church triumphant after more than a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer.

George was born in Brighton, Massachusetts in 1948 to Horatia A. Peabody and George P. DiBenedetto both who preceded him in death.

He graduated from Newton High School in 1966 and attended Arizona State College.

Baseball was one of his greatest passions. He was most proud of becoming a walk-on member of the Arizona State baseball team, playing in the Boston Park League and being awarded the Joe Jones Memorial Award for achievement in baseball. He played in various baseball leagues throughout the country including the Stan Musial League. He also coached in many youth baseball leagues.

He met the love of his life, the former Betsy Lee Bigelow in Cape Cod. They married in 1980 and had two sons, George Raymond and Daniel Peter both of Vero Beach. He has 2 twin granddaughters Sophia Rose and Rachel Grace who gave him so much happiness during this past very difficult year. He is also blessed to have such a strong, wonderful daughter-in-law Carla Riveros DiBenedetto.

His sister Maria Guarnaschelli preceded him in death. His sister Lucia DiBenedetto lives in Portland, Maine. His brother Stephen DiBenedetto lives in Austin, Texas. He has one niece Alexandra Guarnaschelli and 2 nephews Allesandro and Marcello DiBenedetto.

He made his career in the wine and spirits industry, beginning as a display man and working his way up to President of Hiram-Walker.

Celebration of his life is planned at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. George was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and requests that, in lieu of flowers, all donations be given in his name to the First Presbyterian Church.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
