Hubert Masmontet died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, August 13, 2021 in Vero Beach, Florida. He lived his 99 years to their fullest, captivated by world travel first as a child moving between Cuba and France; then as an Air Force Captain; later as Chief Pilot for Gulf & Western, and finally, as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle who had earned the active retirement he so enjoyed. Hubert was predeceased by his devoted wife of 71 years, Carlina, and loving daughter, Lina.
He is survived by his three beloved grandsons, Ty Barnes of Palm Beach, Drew (Mariana) Barnes of Orlando, and Matt (Whitney) Barnes of Vero Beach, and four great-grandchildren who adored him: Thomas and Alexander Barnes of Orlando, and Elle and Annabelle Barnes of Vero Beach, as well as devoted nephew, Emilio (Deborah) Lerma, nieces and cousins from Miami to Paris. He is defined by his strength and courage, his resolute devotion to family, his unflagging optimism and his ease of being in anyone’s company. His legacy is rooted in his love of aviation and flying, his family and friends, world travel, and a nice glass of wine.
A funeral mass will be held at a later date. In leu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County.
