Jack M. Armistead passed on 21 December 2020 after a full life, he was 81 years old. Born in Boone, NC to Lucille and Jack L. Armistead, he is a graduate of Appalachian State College and William & Mary. A teacher and a coach at both the high school and collegiate level (Christopher Newport), Jack was passionate about sports, first basketball and then for the next 60 years … tennis. He picked up the game at the age of 21, and over the decades he played in countless tournaments, ran a tennis store, was a pro at various country clubs and coached a myriad of teams to various championships.
The other love of his life was his wife Betty, who he met as an undergrad, and they were married for over 59 years. Together they traveled Europe when she was stationed there as a US Air Force civilian in the 1980’s. They had a great life afterwards in retirement, moving back and forth between Boone, NC and Vero Beach, FL, where they had homes and relatives. He is survived by his wife Betty; son, Leigh and daughter, Leslie, plus their families and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to FUMC Youth Group, First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th St., Vero Beach, FL., 32960.

Betty,
Jack was a close friend for so many years and I will miss him. Jack was my neighbor back in the day and I loved to visit his Hilton Store and talk shop and sports. He loved football and the crazy Eagles and always stopped by to visit when he was in town. He kept me up to date on Leigh and Leslie and all your travels. Thoughts, prayers and love go out to all the family. I think about him as I look out on the Hilton Tennis courts right now, just walking out my back door where he last visited, I am heartbroken. God Bless the family.

BETTY, SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JACK. HE WAS ONE OF THE FINEST GENTLEMEN THAT I EVER MET. HE WOULD COME TO THE BOONE CLUB AND HOLLER UP TO MY CONDO OVERLOOKING THE TENNIS COURTS AND SAY , ”HAL LETS HIT SOME BALLS ”. I ENJOYED MY 16 YEARS IN BOONE AND GETTING TO KNOW YOU AND JACK. HE WAS A GREAT COMPETITOR AND AFTER BREAKING A REALLY BIG SWEAT , WE WOULD HAVE A COLD BEER. I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT HIS DEATH TWO DAYS AGO. I GOOGLED HIM TO GET HIS PHONE NUMBER AND GOT HIS OBITUARY. I’M GLAD THAT OUR PATHS CROSSED IN BOONE, NC. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY ALL OF US AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING HIM AGAIN IN GOD’S HEAVENLY KINGDOM. BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
