James Edward Carr, Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Salem, NY, passed away August 19, 2020.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Jenifer Zeglin (husband Albion), Jessica Carr (husband Matthew Johnson), Sandra Perry (husband Steve); grandchildren Noah and Julia Zeglin, Cameron and Ryan Perry; brother John Carr (Millicent) sister Jane Dintaman (Wes); Uncle Glen Tigner; Aunt Grace Steinfurth, and a wonderful extended family.
Predeceased by mother, Velma Pocock, stepfather, Gary Pocock and father James Elmer Carr.
For over 20 years, James Carr was Santa to the Salem New York community. He gave of his time, energy, warmth and love, most recently at Gardenworks, creating a magical experience for children and adults alike at Christmastime. He cherished his volunteer fundraising through pictures with Santa for children’s organizations such as Lunch, Learn and Play, the free summer program for children in grades K -9 at the Historic Salem Courthouse Community Center.
James and his family request that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to HSCPA (Historic Salem Courthouse Preservation Association (HSCPA), P.O. Box 140, Salem, NY 12865 with “Lunch, Learn & Play” on the check memo line. Online donations can be made to www.salemcourthouse.org/donate. Under special instructions please indicate LL&P in memory of James Carr. HSCPA is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
