James Irvin Weeks, JR.

December 08, 1938 ~ October 07, 2022

James I. (Jim) Weeks, Jr. 83, passed away October 7, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by family after a long illness. Jim was born December 8, 1938 in Lynchburg, VA . “Jim” was know to many was proceeded in death by his wife, Carol M. Weeks and his father, James I. Weeks and mother, Pauline Weeks.

He is survived by his sister, Mary W. Mc Dowell (Penny) of Wilmington, DE, 3 children, James L. Weeks (Judith) of Dover, DE, Deborah C. Weeks of Palm Bay, FL, and Paul L. Weeks (Susie) of Magnolia, DE. He had four grandchildren, Kristen N. Weeks, Michelle R. Connor (Jeff), Heather L. Weeks and Zachary T. Weeks. He had many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Orchid.  “Jim” fought the battle and now he is home with the Lord. He was known as a husband, father, and friend.

“Jim” attended Wilmington High School in Wilmington, DE. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marines to become a Marine Reserve. After completing Basic Training, he came back home and began working for the Chrysler Auto Assembly Plant in Newark, DE. He worked thirty years in the Trim Department. He met and married his wife Carol E. Mumford in 1961. They resided in Wilmington, DE and then Dover, DE. “Jim” loved sports and enjoyed watching his children play sports for their high school and for years after he watched the Caesar Rodney Riders Football, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and eventually Lacrosse. His proudest moments in life were the birth of his children, watching each one graduate and go on to college, and create homes and families of their own. “Jim” loved his family especially around the holidays. In his later life he enjoyed spending time with his niece and nephews’ families and their children. He had many friends and was liked by a lot of people no matter where he went, he always started a conversation.  “Jim”, Dad, Uncle Jimmy, “Big Jim” and Mr. Jim were the names he answered to.

He will always be remembered by the lives he touched along his journey.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service on March 18, 2023 for James in Delaware.
