James “Jim” D. McFadyen Jr.

January 21, 1940 ~ May 27, 2022

James D. McFadyen Jr., 82, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, May 27, 2022 after a brief illness.
He is survived and loved dearly by his wife of 42 years, Laura; son Chris and wife Jeanmarie; son Danny and wife Lauren; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son James and his sister, Diane McFadyen.
Jim was born January 21, 1940 in Hackensack, New Jersey to James and Lillian McFadyen. He grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and spent early adulthood in Washington Heights, NYC. He raised his family in Old Tappan, New Jersey and Roanoke, Virginia.
Jim owned Jara Contracting in New York City and later Dominion Renovations Inc., in Roanoke, Virginia. He retired and moved with Laura to Vero Beach in 2010, where he was HOA President for a few years. His passion was golf, and he enjoyed playing with his sons and good friends. Jim was a past officer and an active member of the Vero Beach Elks Lodge 1774.
Jim’s love for sports led to his involvement in both New Jersey and Virginia. He helped create and coached in the Old Tappan town football program in the 1970’s and was deeply involved in Little League, as reflected in his position as coach and later District 12 Administrator in Roanoke in the 1990’s.
Jim enjoyed his loving family, great friendships and beautiful weather in his remaining years.
There will be a private service for family. Donations in remembrance of Jim can be made to Elks Love Kids of Character through the Vero Beach Elks Lodge 1774.
Arrangements are under the care of Millennium Cremation Service of Vero Beach. Friends who would like to share a fond memory of Jim or condolences for his family may do so at www.millenniumcremationservice.com.

We were so surprised and saddened to get the news of Jim’s passing. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and socializing with him and Laurie. Any event we would be attending that I knew Jim would be present, I always looked forward to simply conversing with him about any topic that might pop up. Through his quiet wisdom he could enjoyably converse about most anything. His love for baseball (he was the Official Scorer for the Vero Beach Dodgers), and his recollections through his passion for the game instilled fond memories of Yesteryear’s national pastime. R.I.P. dear friend, and GodBless.

My heartfelt condolences go out to you my dear friend Laurie and your family. We first knew Jim many years ago when many of us were aspiring teachers . We knick- named him Jim Flowers because we didn’t know his last name. He sent our Laurie flowers after meeting her for the first time. She was smitten and the rest is history. He will be truly missed.❤️

Laura, so saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. What wonderful memories of you both during the time I spent getting to know you in Old Tappan. He was so supportive of you as we tried our best to make it as thespians and so gracious to us as he allowed you to open your beautiful home together for extra rehearsals and after parties. May he soar to Heaven on Eagle’s Wings and rest in peace ️️️ Bob and I send you our deepest sympathy and hope that the wonderful memories you made together over the past 40 years will enfold you and loving friends and family surround you with

It’s a sad day for all who knew Jim and my love and hugs go out to his very large and loving family. My best memories of Jim go back to his Washington Heights days when we were very young. Did you know Jim was New Jersey State Judo Champion? And owned and ran his own Judo School? My favorite memory is when he took me to the NJ State Judo Championships. It was amazing and remains a clear visual memory. I still have a photo of both his little sons in Judo outfits. We love you Jimbo! RIP! ToniB

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
