James “Mike” Powell

March 23, 1949 ~ August 29, 2021

James “Mike” Powell was born in Vero Beach, FL on March 23, 1949.  Mike was proud to come from a Florida pioneer family, moving from Sweet Gum, FL in 1932. He attended Vero Beach High School and graduated in 1967. He went on to attend the University of Florida School of Ornamental Horticulture and was a proud Gator.

Mike passed away August 29, 2021, at VNA Hospice House.

He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Leona Peterson.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, James Angus Powell and Ruthie Jewell Powell; brothers, Angus Calton Powell and Grover Areadus Powell; sister Sybil Maxine Ondic; and the love of his life, Lynne Fastiggi.

A Memorial Service for Mike will be held at a later date.

I remember as a young boy watching Mike play basketball on those great VBHS teams with Dick Tansey and Page Wilkerson. Rest In Peace Mike. Go Gators.
