James Phillips Pemberton, 90, formerly of Bradenton, FL, passed away October 22, 2021, at VNA Hospice House.
He was born September 13, 1931, in Morristown, TN to the late Paul and Martha Adele Phillips Pemberton. James, an only child, earned the rank of Eagle Scout and later served as a Scout Master of Troop 91 in Morristown. He served as a former President of the Morristown Kiwanis Club and was a member of Trinity Methodist Church.
Mr. Pemberton was a veteran of the United States Army. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Middle Tennessee State University and later served many years with the Army Corps of Engineers.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Tim Ward of Okeechobee, FL; daughter, Sharon Burnett of Tennessee; grandson, Blake McCarter, his wife, Megan and their son, Preston “Scotty” McCarter; granddaughter, Krista Williams, her husband, Eric and their children, Emery and Eden of Tennessee and granddaughter, Oliva Burnett of Florida.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Beverly Ruth Pemberton; son, Bob Pemberton; grandson, Scott McCarter and son-in-law, Todd Burnett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida 32960 or Solaris Senior Living at www.solarisfoundation.org.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Solaris Senior Living, especially Jason and Gina, for the love and care given to Mr. and Mrs. Pemberton.
No services are scheduled at this time. An inurnment with military honors will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery.
