James S. Reid, 82, of Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Christy, and his daughter, Amber, by his side on July 13th, 2026. He fiercely fought pancreatic cancer for three years. Jim was born in San Diego, CA April 25th, 1944, to Annette M. Sladek and Zollie Martin Reid. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Albert B. Bush. He graduated in 1962, as James Bush, from Bishop Amat Memorial High School in La Puente, CA.
Later, Jim served in the USAF at Fairchild Airforce Base, Washington State; married Donna and had Jeff and Debbie. He later moved the family to help run his father Zollie’s business, Alberta Creek Resort in Oklahoma. In 1971, Jim relocated the family to Orlando, FL to work as a surveyor for Walt Disney World. He later met and married Beverly and together they had their daughter, Raina.
In 1981, Jim and Beverly started “Second Chance” golf ball recycling in Orlando. With his clever ideas and “logic”, they grew Second Chance into a multi-million-dollar business which they sold in 1994 and retired to Fort Pierce, FL.
In retirement, Jim bought and restored several boats including the “Ball Bandit”, “Grim Reaper”, and “Rain Raven”.
Jim later met his current wife, Christy, and moved to Vero Beach having his fourth child, Amber, in 2004 at the age of 60.

Jim, AKA, “Ageless” was a well known and respected personal trainer at World Gym, Max Fitness and most recently, Lifestyle 24/7. He officially retired again in late 2025/early 2026.
Jim was in VNA Hospice care at his home for the last 12 weeks of his life; taken care of by his wife Christy, his special angel Amber, and his favorite niece, Pam Mathis. He was surrounded by his family for his 82nd birthday and enjoyed his pool and family time.
Jim is survived by his wife, Christy; daughter Amber; , granddaughter Journey; Raven (his beloved dog whom he spoiled), stepdaughter Casey Steele (Robert) , granddaughter Hannah; previous wife, Beverly Reid; longtime family friend Diane Reid; daughter Raina Harter (Peter), grandson Kai; son Jeff Reid (Susan); , grandchildren Ashley, Ann Marie, Nicole, Dakoda, Kashton, Tinsley, Piper; daughter Debbie Hunter (Chris); sisters Dyann Beech (Larry), Ellen Hall (Jeff);stepsister Betty Buchannon of Oklahoma, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents; stepson Eric Opper; great granddaughter Emery Nicole Canty.
