Joan was a native of Boston, Massachusetts born August 6th, 1937. She is now with her 2 sisters Carol Ann Hynes, Donna M. Burke and her brother Frank (“Spanky”) Walsh who have all passed away before her. Her parents were Francis A. and Dorothy Walsh.
Joan was college educated at Boston University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. She was involved in student government both in high school and college. She met her future husband at a dance when both were in college in Boston. He was a M.I.T. student at the time. She was married to Joaquin Borrero in 1959.
She has 2 children who were the loves of her life. She would do anything for them. She was there in good times and bad times for her 2 boys: Mark Borrero of Palm Bay, FL and James Borrero of Vero Beach, FL. She also has 2 grandchildren Robert Borrero of Palm Bay, FL and Sarah Borrero of Portland, Oregon. She would love to spend time with them trying to teach them values and listening to them and loving them and keep telling them that family is very important.
Joan was a kindly woman who helped so many people. No one was a stranger. She made friends every place she went. She always asked how you were doing and truly listened to people.
She had 18 nephew and nieces who she had over for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. They all felt welcomed. They enjoyed playing pool in the basement. She always gave them wonderful gifts to each one of them on Christmas.
She was partner with Mike Ruta for over 20 years. She was there for his children: Cindy, Kathy, Dolly, Julie, and Michael. Joan was especially close to Cindy who was there with Joan for her last birthday August 6th, 2023.
She will be missed for her kindness and compassion. She passed away in her home from cancer with her 2 boys helping taking care of her. Her family will arrange burial in Crestlawn cemetery in Vero Beach, FL.

I remember playing cards with everyone when I was younger. Joan and Mike were such a big part of my summers in Wellfleet. She was my godmother, and my mother’s best friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Joan was our neighbor as well. I babysat for the boys when they were quite young. I was a young teen at the time and I loved talking with Joan and she was a good friend.
My condolences to the family.

The perfect new neighbor a new Massachusetts transplant Joan was my welcome wagon, Boston area news source, local and national political commentator, and proud mom sharing stories of growing up in Marblehead, her student years at B.U. working in the MA court system, and raising her pride and joys, Mark and James. But for me the hook was her sense of humor and hearing her laugh during our frequent phone calls was always a treat.
