John E Johnston

May 17, 1947 ~ July 23, 2024

John E Johnston, 77, of Palm Bay Florida went to join his Lord and Savior on July 23, 2024.

He was born in Morenci, Michigan on May 17, 1947, to Ellwood (Johnny) and Dorris Johnston. He was a resident of Palm Bay, Florida for 11 years, coming from Adrian, Michigan. John graduated from Morenci High School in 1965 and was married to Deborah (Morris) Johnston since 2005.

Throughout high school John worked with his father at “Johnny’s City Service.”  He joined the army right out of high school and served his country from 1965 to 1968. He served as a sheriff deputy for Lenawee County in Michigan for 20 years. He was also a police officer for Hudson Police Department and Tecumseh Police Department before moving to California for a short period of time. After returning to Michigan, he started working for Adrian College in 1989 as a janitor, then was paint crew leader. In 2003 he was promoted to the Director of Maintenance and Facilities until he retired in 2013.

John dearly loved his family and friends and would do anything for them. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, hiking, riding motorcycles, and fishing. He was a “jack of all trades”. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He was always working on a project.  He loved building and creating new things from old items with his wife.  They called it “Reinvented Creations”.   He was everyone’s “go-to-guy”. He loved life and was loved by everyone.

He is survived by his spouse, Deborah (Morris) Johnston; children: John Darryl Johnston, Tyler Johnston, Skylar Johnston, stepdaughter, Christine Lariscey; siblings: Judith (Bill) Lumbrezer, Sandra Pennington; Mother-in-Law, Elizabeth Morris; Sister-in-Law: Susan (Hank) Hall. He had nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. All of whom he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ellwood (Johnny) and Dorris Johnston; Brother-in-law: Kendall Pennington and Dan Morris; Father-in-law: Billy Morris.

John was a great neighbor, fishing buddy and friend. He would drop what he was doing and help me when I needed it, without hesitation.
A truly nice guy who will be missed.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
