John P. Alexa

September 21, 1935 ~ January 19, 2023

On January 19th, 2023 John P. Alexa, 87, Vero Beach, FL (formally from Kingston, PA) passed from this life surrounded by family and friends peacefully.

He was born September 21, 1935 in Kingston, PA to Helen and George Alexa.  He joined the Air Force in 1955 and was Honorably discharged in 1959.  He then joined the reserves and was Honorably discharged in 1963.  He met and married the love of his life, Lois L. Alexa, on November 23, 1966.

He worked at Piper Aircraft for 43 years, where he was known as “Big John,” and retired at age 73.  His work family had much respect for his work ethic and even his “seemingly” gruff side.  He was a member of the American Hibiscus Society from 1969 until the early 1990s.  He was known for his endless knowledge and ability to grow outstanding plants that produced show winning trophies.  He always had the greenest thumb that was evidenced by his spectacular vegetable gardens.  After retiring, he enjoyed cooking his famous clam chowder and “Good Stuff” (sausage, peppers and secret tomato sauce) for everyone to enjoy.  John always had a joke to share because he loved to make others around him laugh.

John is survived by his loving wife Lois L. Alexa of 56 years.  His daughters Sandy Seese Brown (husband Jeff Brown), Debbie Durling (Richard), sons Danny Alexa and Johnny Alexa (Susan).  His grandchildren Casey McNally (husband Andrew McNally), Logan Seese (wife Savannah Seese),  Heather Alexa and 3 great grandchildren – Lelia, Braxton and Brynlee.

He is proceeded by his father George, his mother Helen, his sister Leona. His in-laws Marvin and Euretha Kinchen.

I shall miss him, and my condolences to my other family members and anyone else that knew him, we should all take comfort in knowing he’s no longer suffering, he’s been in rough shape for quite a while.

His stories about the past and his family were always entertaining, and he made me smile, I’ll always appreciate that.

Worked With John for many years…..yes he could be gruff, but had a heart of Gold, and I never knew anyone that did not like Big John. He loved my smoked fish. We talked about gardening a lot…RIP my friend

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
