Joseph Thomas Holzapfel, 103 of Port St. Lucie passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Emory L. Bennett State Veterans Nursing Home in Daytona Beach.
Born January 16, 1920 in New York he was one of three children born to Joseph and Marie Holzapfel. He moved to Florida in 1967 from New York and lived in Broward County for over 40 years. Joseph moved to Port St. Lucie in 2013 from Hollywood.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged. He received the American Campaign Medal and Victory Medal.
Joseph retired as an industrial mechanical engineer. He wanted to be more active in retirement and he became a realtor allowing him to keep busy and meet people.
Joseph enjoyed deep sea fishing, watching and attending Indy Car Racing and baseball. He liked to ride motorcycles; he retired his bike and helmet at age 85.
Survivors include his daughters, April (Richard) Kaufman and Jill Surface; grandchildren, Kimberly Michelle Kaufman and Charles Joseph Surface; great grandchildren, Zoey Rain Myers; Kali Jade Myers and Jack Surface.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Barbara Holzapfel; sister, Anne Pinto and brother, Frank Holzapfel.
