Joyce Jay Mills

April 14, 1947 ~ January 16, 2023

Joyce Jay Teague Mills of Vero Beach, Florida, entered into the presence of the Lord on January 16th, 2023.

The daughter of the late Bura Vaughn Teague and Eula Dee Henderson, Joyce was born on April 14th, 1947, in  Ft. Pierce, Florida. She attended Vero Beach High School.

She married Richard Charles Mills, Sr. in 1965. During their 57 years of marriage, Richard and Joyce lived in Alaska and Vero Beach.

Joyce was a beautiful woman, inside and out. Her family will remember her as their light, so much fun, creative, passionate, fierce, loving, and tender. She showed everyone around her who God is in so many ways. Richard and Joyce established a faithful legacy that will live on in their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Joyce was an accomplished gardener who loved hummingbirds, butterflies, and orchids. She was a member of Central Assembly, where she served for decades as the nursery coordinator, caring for numerous infants and children. She was also a faithful intercessor and small group leader. Joyce was known for her hospitality and godly wisdom.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard, and her children:

Kathleen S. Earle of Safety Harbor; Richard Charles Mills, Jr. (Dorothea) of Vero Beach; Joseph Edward Mills (Jennifer) of Cardington, Ohio;  and Kellie Renee Tipton (Paul) of Vero Beach.

Mrs. Mills is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers Ed Teague (Ann); Buddy Teague (Linda); Tobby Teague (Jenni); and sister-in-law Kathie Teague. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Teague.

The Celebration of Life will be at Central Assembly in Vero Beach.

All memorial gifts may be made to Central Assembly towards the Foundation for the Future – Children’s Ministry Center.

Joyce was one of the nicest, most pleasant person to be around always. I never even heard her raise her voice. My condolences to the Teague and Mills families, Joyce will be dearly missed by all.

I didn’t have the privilege of knowing Joyce. I am one of the brothers of her daughter-in-law Dorothea. I know how much Joyce meant to her. I care very much for Rick and Noel. I pray God’s comfort and strength for all.

“We were saddened to hear of Joyce’s passing from our sister, Dorothea Mills. Joyce was mentioned often in our conversations and it was apparent to us that she was an incredible person. Our thoughts are with Richard, Rick, Noel, Dorothea and the entire family. Our hope is that you feel peace, be comforted, find strength and lots of love at this time.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
