Juan A. Santos, 74, passed away in Fellsmere, Florida on September 9, 2024 after a long illness. Born in Laredo, Texas on March 6, 1950, he will be remembered as a dedicated and hardworking husband, dad, “Papa”, and friend.
Juan was a gifted, self-taught mechanic who repaired everything from race cars to space shuttles. He retired from Kennedy Space Center as a pneumatic propellant mechanic with the space program after nearly 25 years. A lifelong MOPAR and NHRA fan, he enjoyed restoring classic cars, attending racing events and car shows, and even served as president of the MOB Club (Mopars of Brevard).
His true passion was music. As a teen, he bought his first accordion and taught himself how to play and repair the instrument. He joined a band and toured the western US, performing the Conjunto-style music that later earned him a place in the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and a Brownsville Music Legacy Award. He mentored young musicians, attended music festivals, repaired and restored numerous instruments, and developed his own line of Conquistador Accordions.
Juan loved God and, most of all, his family. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet; his children Juan, Jr. (Tracie), Javier (Julie), Jesus, Stacy, and Daniel; grandchildren Ashley, Andrew, Felicia, Joseph, Francisco, Salvador, Berkley, Tristan, DeAndre, and Alexander; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings Manuela Garcia, Renato, Jr., Maria Rivera, and Ricardo.
He was preceded in death by his parents Renato and Vicenta, siblings Jesus, Irma Menchaca, and Margarita de la Garza, and grandson Anthony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the VNA & Hospice Foundation of the Treasure Coast.

I was so lucky to have known and worked with Juan. He was one of the most intelligent people that I have ever met. He showed me different ways to look at situations, and even taught me a little Spanish along the way. He will be greatly missed.
