Julian Floyd Wingate

August 14, 1958 ~ August 24, 2021

Julian “Floyd” Wingate was born August 14, 1958 and went to heaven August 24, 2021. He was born and raised in Vero Beach. Floyd played baseball, softball, bowled and lifted weights, where he competed and won trophies.

Floyd loved to make people laugh and never met a stranger. He was passionate about his views and wasn’t afraid to give them. He loved his family and friends and if you are in his group he cared and worried about you. He met the love of his life in 1978 and never looked back they married in 1981 and have spent over 40 years together. Floyd loved his time at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, even though it ended too soon. He Hoped to mold and make a difference in someone’s life. His rewards came when he would see them later and they were doing fine. Floyd later went to work at the Indian River County Shooting Range where he was a range officer, again helping people learn how to safely handle firearms. There he met some good friends.

His greatest love was his granddaughter, he loved playing Tom the Cat, watching videos and singing with her in his lap. The world stopped when they were together.

Floyd was preceded in death by his father Hugh Wingate Sr, mother, Betty Wingate and brother, Charles Haven.

He is survived by his wife of 40 plus years, Cathy Wingate; brothers, Tom Giles, Sr. (Teri), Hugh Wingate, Jr. (Walter), Jim Wingate (Karen); brothers-in-law, Terry Lee (Lori), Steve Lee (Laurie), Scott Lee; sister, Fran Winston (David); son, Michael (Rebecca), daughter-in-law, Lauren and granddaughter, Raelyn Nicole Wingate and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life for Floyd at the Indian River County Shooting Range,

What a loss ! He will truly be missed. He actually could light up a room with his humor, positivitiy, compassion , and love for all. His warm charisma and charm would enchant , intrigue, and lighten your heart. An absolute joy to be around . I am so honored to have met him, worked with him, and able to call him my friend. May God welcome him home with open arms and bring comfort to his family .

Uncle Floyd,
I will always remember all the laughs you gave us. We always said you should have been a comedian! I may not have seen you very often throughout the years, but you made an impact in my life. May you and our ancestors before us reunite on the other side, until me meet again…
Love and Light Always

Uncle Floyd,
I will always remember all the laughs, I mean tears coming out of our eyes laughing, at all the funny things you would say or jokes you would tell. You were a big part of our childhood. I may not have seen you much over the years, but you had an impact in my life. May you be reunited with all our ancestors before us on the other side. I am glad I got to tell you that I loved you one last time. Rest in power, love and peace!
Love and light,
Kristy

From the first time I met Floyd was in booking when I brought in an arrest. No matter what my mood was or how frustrated the day had me, he would always make me laugh instantly. He always cared about how I was and if I needed anything. Such a tough loss. Hugs and prayers to Cathy, Michael and the rest of the family

Floyd and I met back in the 70’s when his brother, Tom, was dating my sister, Terri. Although our paths haven’t crossed recently, I knew he would always have a joke or funny comment to share when I saw him. Many remarks were made quietly, but his comic timing was spot on. Heaven is a funnier place now that Floyd is there sharing his zingers. Cathy and Michael, you are in my prayers. I pray that time will heal your hearts.

Cathy, Michael and family our sincerest condolences. Floyd was a great man who cared dearly for his family and his love for Jesus Christ. I spent most of my career besides Floyd and he was a cops cop. He saw the good in mankind and made us all laugh amidst a world in turmoil. A Saint you could say but I prefer to call him brother. Until we meet again, rest easy old friend, forever in our hearts..

I met Julian in 2019 at the Range when I did’nt know what I was doing. He took the time to show me. I’ll miss his stories and great demeanor. I have’nt been to the range in some time, but when I go, it won’t be the same without Julian. My condolences to the family. R.I.P. Julian Floyd Wingate

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
