LeRoy Walter Rasp

November 03, 1929 ~ August 26, 2021

Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather; Retired Nutley Fire Captain

LeRoy Walter Rasp, 91, of Vero Beach FL, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife of 65 years by his side on August 26, 2021.  He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.  Born in Passaic, NJ, he lived in Nutley, NJ for 58 years.  He graduated from Nutley High School in 1949.  He proudly served his country in the US Army, honorably discharged in 1953.  He then became a member of the Nutley Fire Department for 37 years, retiring in 1988 as Captain.  Upon retirement, he moved to Vero Beach, FL where he worked at Dodgertown as an Event Coordinator for 25 years.

LeRoy loved his hometown of Nutley and had a passion for the high school football games at the Park Oval.  He enjoyed his returns following retirement when he would visit the firehouse to meet with old colleagues and be introduced to new members of the crew.  He was a long-time congregation member at St. Paul’s Church in Nutley.

LeRoy is the son of the late former Nutley Deputy Chief of Police, Walter F. Rasp, and Dorothy.  He was also the dear brother of the predeceased Eugene H. Rasp and Joyce D. Bremec.  He is survived by his wife Jean (Hollins) of Vero Beach; son Gregory L. Rasp and his wife Michelle of Nutley; daughter Suzanne Corso of Vero Beach; granddaughters Erica Mello and Brittany Rasp; grandsons Matthew Rasp and John Corso, Jr.; great-grandsons Gavin Kampka and Jaxon Cuny.

Message from Thomas Brazier Hollins

Jenny, I am your father’s little brothers (Robert) son. We, cousins, met once many years ago. I am sorry to hear of Leroy’s ‘passing’ but delighted that you had such a long life together.
I am the last of my generation of the Hollins family. My older brother, Robert, has two sons, neither of whom are ‘producing’ which leaves my son as the last one standing, currently.
If you would like to know more, you can contact me in Australia!

Keep well

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
