Margaret Louise Decker, 83, passed away on September 26, 2024, in Vero Beach, Florida. Born on November 23, 1940, Margaret, affectionately known as Margie, was known for her wit, intelligence and boundless energy which she brought into every room and relationship.
Margie’s career was marked by her profound love for children having worked at various daycare centers in New York and Florida. However, she often expressed that her favorite job was being a grandmother or “GG” to her grandchildren Cole and Skyler York-Decker. Her dedication to her family was clear in her over 60 years of marriage to her husband, Robert C. Decker, and her nurturing role as a mother to her daughter Bonnie J. Decker and son Todd R. Decker.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph DeFeo and Margaret Byrd. Margie is survived by her loving family including her husband, children and grandchildren.
“Now go forth from this place in peace, and remember you are God’s child in your father’s world. God upholds you with peace and keeps you safe in heaven’s love, god whispers to you in the dark night that all shall be well.
And when at last your days on this earth are done, God will take you by the hand and lead you into the land called Promise. Where all shall be well, all shall be well, all manner of things shall be well.”
A private celebration of life will be held later to honor Margie’s vibrant life and enduring legacy.

While we couldn’t pick our neighbors on Washington Ave, I was glad that Marge (and y’all) were ours. Her humor was second to none and her outlook always positive, despite her sarcasm. May you treasure your memories and find comfort in them.

Prior to Mom’s diagnoses, every time she would tell me she loves me, my answer was always one word “thanks” I did not see the point of telling Mom something she already knew, I already knew and my family already knew. There are countless way to tell someone you love them; in a card or letter, a song, a poem or in some cases a gift Those things are nice, but I decided to tell Mom “I love you” in my own unique way. Proverbs 17:22 states in part “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine”. This verse has evolved into the saying, “Laughter is the best medicine” Turns out it was also the best way I could tell Mom I love you throughout her life. I will always remember her infectious laugh and her ability to light up every room with her smile. I can’t wait to see you to see you again Mom,
