Marjorie A. “Margie’ Campbell

June 08, 1944 ~ October 07, 2024

Marjorie A. “Margie” Campbell passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2024 with her loving family beside her.

Born on June 8th, 1944 in Chester, Pennsylvania to parents Edwin and Margaret Milavitch, Margie’s parents would eventually relocate their family to Margie’s beloved Astoria, Queens, New York, where Margie’s life story truly began.

In her younger years and throughout her high school years, Margie was an exemplary student with a penchant for words, creative writing, typing and reading.  This would ultimately lead her to a career in the secretarial, administrative and office management field.

In 1962, Margie accepted an invitation to join friends at a party in Brooklyn, New York.  Little did she know that she would meet her future husband, Alphonsus “Alan” Campbell that night.

Alan asked for Margie’s phone number, but never called, leaving her to assume that he wasn’t interested.  Fate and Margie’s friends thought differently.  Margie and Alan were intentionally seated together at a friend’s wedding.  This ultimately led to 46 years of marriage until Alan passed away in 2011.

The union of Margie and Alan blessed them with two children (Karen and Kevin), two grandchildren (Alexa and Keira) and one great grandchild (Kylo).

In 2009, Margie found herself back in contact with her childhood boyfriend, Vincent Eklund.  Their newly formed friendship would soon prove to be life altering.  In 2011, with their respective spouses passing within a week of each other, Margie and Vinnie helped each other grieve.  Through this grief a love was reborn that endured until Margie’s death this week.  They shared 12 years together.

Margie had a beautiful singing voice and she would often share her gift with others.  At the tender age of five years, Margie won a local radio station’s talent contest.  She was quite proud of this accomplishment along with an appearance on the Howdy Doody Show.

“Mrs. C”, as Margie was affectionately known to her children’s friends, had an “open door” policy.  Whether a child was hungry, needed a place to stay, or just someone to talk to, Margie’s arms and heart were wide open.  The Campbell home was a sanctuary.

Margie’s children, grandchildren and especially her great grandchild were her entire world.  She was fiercely proud of her son and daughter and their lives and accomplishments.  She was forever grateful to her son for the gift of her grandchildren and ultimately her great grandchild.

A four time cancer survivor, Margie was known for her strength, resilience, her progressive views and her unwavering love for her family, friends and pets.  If you knew Margie, you know that her sharp tongue was legendary.

With a passion for thrifting, collecting antiques and all things vintage, Margie created a whimsically decorated home of which she was extremely proud.

Margie loved 50’s Doo Wop music, calling it “the best music evah” and it was not uncommon to walk into the house to hear her beautiful voice singing the golden oldies with her daughter, Karen.  Margie’s love for Elvis Presley reigned throughout the years and her collection of Elvis memorabilia was rivaled only by her handbag and shoe collection.

Forever a New Yorker at heart, not afraid to speak her mind (if you know, you know), and despite residing in Florida for nearly 30 years, Margie never lost her distinct Queens accent.

Margie’s vibrant personality made her impossible to forget, and she will be dearly missed by many.  May she find comfort in the loved ones who have been waiting for her in heaven.

Margie is survived by her children, Karen (KC) Campbell, her son, Kevin, her granddaughters, Alexa and Keira, her great grandson Kylo and her God son, Norman Monsen.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Margaret Milavitch and her beloved husband, Alphonsus (Alan) Campbell.

I am our parents’ youngest daughter, Jane. There is a thirteen-year difference between us. Our brother, Edwin, is two years older than her. Childhood memories are sweet; memories are also overshadowed by words, deeds and distance.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
