In Memoriam

MARTIN BAILEY

August 10, 1949 – December 23, 2019

Martin was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1949, son of Alfred and Mary Bailey. Mary apparently wanted to name him after her many brothers and other male relatives, that’s why he had an amazingly long name:

MARTIN JOSEPH MICHAEL ALFRED RAYMOND LAVIN PATRICK BAILEY.

Yes! That was his real name but everyone called him Marty. Marty had only one sister who died when she was only 5 years old.

Marty and his parents moved to Vero Beach, Florida, in 1959 so he lived for 60 of his 70 years right here in Vero Beach. He became a Seminole, graduating from Florida State University, where he was also a star catcher on the baseball team. Marty was a Vietnam veteran, serving two terms in the army in Vietnam and was proud to serve his country.

His father and mother passed away in 1990, leaving Marty with no close relatives but he had so many friends, everyone loved Marty. He had many friends at Florida Insurance Services DBA Senior Life Services in Vero Beach where he worked from 1993 until he retired due to his failing health in the middle of 2019. More than 200 insurance agents and 50 office workers all loved and cherished Marty because of his generous heart and cheerful spirit. Marty was truly a kind, caring person who will be greatly missed by not only his fellow workers but by his many friends in Vero Beach, especially the fellow regulars at Kelley’s Irish Pub, where he spent many happy times over many years. Marty had a very long name but very few material possessions. He never owned a home nor owned an automobile but he was rich in spirit and loved by all.

Marty passed away peacefully at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was not alone. Paul McDonald, his best friend for the past 26 years was by his side. Marty told friends that Paul was like his second father who helped him through his various health issues throughout the past 10 years.

Rest in peace, Marty, we will not forget you.

Marty will be honored and memorialized at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Palm Beach County on January 6, 2020 at 2:30 pm.

MJMARLP BAILEY
RIP my friend.
We met by chance and a few months later ran into each other again when I came to SLS for a job interview. You didn’t remember me but I remembered you and reminded you of that. Then you said “do you want part time or full time?” That was 19 years ago.
You were a wonderful coworker and friend. Thanks for the memories Marty.

I had the pleasure of working with Marty at Senior Life Services years ago and have thought about him often over the years. I am very sad to learn of Marty’s passing and wish I could have attended his service. Marty was a radiant spirit, an angel on earth, his smile and energy made this world a better place. In reading how Paul McDonald was with Marty during his final days, it brought tears to my eyes! Paul was such an amazing boss and always so kind and generous to everyone…..I’m so glad Marty had such an amazing friend in his life. It made me smile to learn the story behind his name, I never realized he had so many. Rest in peace Marty!

Love,

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
