Maureen O’Brien Spencer was born on March 28, 1960, in San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ken Spencer, and her parents, Pauline and Frank O’Brien.
She is survived by her siblings: Kevin O’Brien, Tom O’Brien and his wife Kim, Kathy Bowles and her husband Mark, and Frank O’Brien. She also leaves behind her cherished nieces, Tara and Stacy Jones, and nephews, Justin and Tyler O’Brien.
Maureen grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, where she attended Christ the King Elementary School and graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School in 1978. On December 24, 1995, she married Ken Spencer and began a new chapter in Oklahoma City. There, she worked in billing for the Oklahoma University Medical Center, where she was known for her kindness and dedication.
She had a deep love for the simple joys of life—visits to the beach, trips to Branson, celebrating Christmas, and the companionship of her beloved pets, her cat Tiger and her dog Paulie.
In 2023, Maureen retired and moved to Vero Beach, Florida, to enjoy a quieter life closer to nature and family.
After a courageous battle with cancer and enduring a year of intense chemotherapy and radiation, Maureen passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

I can’t even believe this thought it was spam! She was my cherished friend for so very many years. My best friend on this planet. We met at Heartside home care part of Sentara and worked together for years until she moved away. We stayed friends. Prayers for the family and her friend she touched so very many people during her life. She will be cherished for ever.

Your presence will greatly be missed. I loved working with you at OU. You were a fantastic boss and wonderful friend. I’ll miss hearing your laugh and you saying, “You’re too much!” You were so much fun to be around. It’s still hard to believe you’re gone, but you’ll never be forgotten, sweet friend.

Maureen was definitely loved by everyone she met. Always a smile on her face and always encouraging others. I was honored to work with her and to be friends with her. Though heartbroken I’m at peace knowing she is resting in the arms of our heavenly Father and that she’s reunited with Ken and her mom and dad. She is now healed.

Maureen and I both shared the same Spencer name as I was married to Ken Spencer’s father Mike Spencer until his passing in 2003. Maureen was such a sweet person and I always wished that we could have lived closer to her & Ken (so far away) and spend time together, but now we look forward to our reunion in heaven. May God comfort each of our hearts with precious memories.
