Michael Frederick Johnson

November 27, 1940 ~ April 20, 2023

Michael Frederick Johnson, 82, of Southbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, April 20, 2023, after a brief battle with Covid/pneumonia.

Michael was born on November 27, 1940, to Albert F. and Martha C. Johnson in Greenville, Michigan. While attending Greenville High School, he met the love of his life, Carolyn.  They were married after he graduated from Purdue University in 1962.  He then began his successful 40-year career at IBM. Michael’s career moved his family to Indiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee and finally to Connecticut, where he retired. Carolyn and Michael were married for 62 years and had four children, Julie, Mike, David and Mark. Wonderful memories and happy times will never be forgotten.

Michael was a kind, wonderful, devoted father, and husband. He was extremely intelligent, easy going, humorous, and caring. His love of sports (especially football and baseball) and trivia were conversations enjoyed by many people through the years. Michael and Carolyn spent their fall and winters in Vero Beach, Florida where they enjoyed swimming, walking on the beach, playing tennis, shuffleboard, and enjoying the outdoors. Spring and summers were spent in Southbury, Connecticut where they gardened, hiked, and explored the outdoors. Michael also shared his knowledge as President of the Vista Royale Computer Club.

Michael leaves behind his wife, Carolyn P. Johnson; four children: Julie Johnson, Mike (Carole) Johnson, David (Lisa) Johnson, and Mark Johnson; six grandchildren: Bryan (Kristin), Andrew (Alex), Tyler, Courtney, Breanna, and Hayden; and two great-granddaughters: Riley and Mackenzie Johnson.

May God wrap his loving arms around Michael until we see you again. You will be missed.

Michael’s ashes will be spread in Vero Beach, Florida and Southbury, Connecticut.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
