Mona Russell

September 07, 1954 ~ January 14, 2023

Mona Russell, 68, passed away on January 14, 2023, in Vero Beach, FL.

She was born September 7, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio to Al Russell and Helen Russell.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Hess; mother, Helen Russell; sister, Sharon Aloni; brother, Gary Russell; and nieces and nephew.

Mona was a realtor in the Toledo area for many years beginning with Grogan Realty and ending with Welles-Bowen Realty.

Mona and Bob lived for many years at Hidden Harbour in Holland, OH and loved the lake life with their many friends. In 1999 they moved aboard their sailboat, Mutual Fun, and lived on board for three years. They cruised the US East Coast, Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Caribbean from Maine to Venezuela. Their adventures can be followed online on Mona’s log at Mutualfun.fws1.com.

In 2007, they became snowbirds and spent winters in Vero Beach, FL, a town they discovered while sailing. They sold their Ohio home in 2019 and moved to Vero year-round.

Mona was an avid pickleball player in Holland and became very involved in the newly forming pickleball community in Vero. This is where she met many wonderful friends that she cherished and missed greatly during her last illness. Mona saw an opportunity through pickleball for a business providing sporty jewelry connected to the sport. She started her company, PB&J, Pickleball and Jewelry, which became a favorite of players across the country. The business was very successful and just recently closed because of her illness.

According to her wishes there will not be a showing or funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled by the family at a later date.

The family suggests any tributes be made to VNA Hospice of IRC or Pickleball U of Vero Beach, FL.

I enjoyed every minute spending time with Mona mostly on the courts as she was a great Pickleball partner and friend but her laugh and sense of humor was just great too. I’m so sorry as Mona was a shining light to all her many friends and i always looked forward to seeing her each year. I’m so glad to have seen her one last time at the courts a month ago or so where we all met years ago as she was smiling and touching all of our hearts in spite of being ill. My sincerest condolences to Mona’s family.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
